As far as Saric vs Anderson, I rank Saric higher because he is more athletic, which will make him a better defender.

if Saric is going to be better than Anderson as a defender we should not get Anderson.

Quote
Saric would have a much better NBA outlook if not for his lack of foot speed and athleticism ... His quickness and elevation might be enough to finish in Europe, but without the ability to finish above the rim, things will likely prove more difficult for him in the NBA ... He is quick and mobile for a player his height but clearly lacks the foot speed to stay in front of NBA wing forwards ... In addition he lacks ideal strength to battle NBA PFs on the block ..

Quote
. Defensively as we said, he struggles to defend both the 3 and the 4 positions. His wingspan is just 6?10 so he will be much harder for him to recover from his lack of foot speed ... He does play really hard, and seems to have an aggressive mentality on every play but he will have to overcome many weaknesses and really develop as a player and as an athlete in the next couple of years to have a legitimate impact in the NBA ...

as the saying goes my grandma can jumper and move better than these guys.

Yeah but they are incredibly skilled and smart, with great size. If they were 6'5 they wouldn't cut it, but tall guys with great skills and IQ have a really good track record.

If Larry Bird was 6'4 instead of 6'9, there would be nothing legendary about him.

If there was any perceptive basis to this seemingly-contrarian thinking, surely an NBA franchise or two would've procured your services in their scouting wings already.

Or are you not allowed to talk about that?

Also on the list of players who were really skilled, tall, and/or smart: Adam Morrison, Darko Milicic, Nikoloz Tsikishvili, Eric Montross, and Bruno Sundov. As well as probably a million others I can't think of right now.

Now you're just discriminating against unathletic players because of your anti-Euro bias.

Well, long-term you would probably need to pair Anderson with a dominant defensive center like D Howard or Gasol to win a championship with him as a star/starter.

Then you add the fact that most teams already have a really good point guard, plus the fact that Anderson might not be ready to play PF full time for a year or two.

Plus there are a bunch of talented players this year, and teams toward the top of the draft tend to be looking for maximum immediate impact.

"And/or" is your little sneaky addition to what I said to try to make me look ridiculous.

I was talking about Skilled, tall, AND smart, which none of your lame examples fit.

You mean except for Morrison and Tsikishvili? Heck, throw in Jonathan Bender too if you want. Even Sundov.

In fact, a 32-year-old Sundov dominating the Croatian league a couple of seasons ago in pretty much the same fashion as Saric should be quite telling about the level of competition there (that's in case anyone still had any doubts):

The fact is, there are plenty of players who weren't cut for the NBA, no matter now tall or smart or skilled they were.

Adam Morrison was a 200 pound SG/SF, with a 6'10 wingspan, without any pg skills and with diabetes. Then he blew his knee out.

But good try.

Yeah, pretty much the same size as Larry Bird (whom you mentioned yourself), right? With all the requisite size, skills, and smarts. And he was quite horrid even before the knee injury.

Montross had an 8 year career was actually a rotation player for the first 5.  If you can get a guy like that with the 17th pick, that's not too shabby.  If he's your pick at #6, you blew it big time.

Montross was a 10-15 minutes a game player past his 3rd season in the NBA. He was also picked 9th.

I know that the criteria for seven-footers are somewhat lower, but I expect more value from a even from a 17th pick. I guess I'm an optimist.

Did you just compare Morrison to Bird? Case closed.

Who's asking, the person that compared both Saric and Porzingis to Nowitzki? ;D

For the record, I was responding directly to this:

Hence, Adam Morrison -- tall, skilled, smart player. And not quite legendary.
