Why is it a Dream? It is very possible, but only if Danny Ainge wants to win now instead of re-build. We have the cap space and the assets needed to make it happen.

You confuse cap space with room under the luxury tax.

The salary cap for next year is around $63.5 mil. Celtics will be over that figure if cap holds for the TE and Avery Bradley are factored into the Celtics cap situation.

It was reported on Felger and Mazz that Bradley wanted 7 mill 4 years. Nope, can't do it for a guy that played 64  games this year, and I think thats the high.

Hayward is a better SG than SF because he can use his size.

With that, you hopefully get lucky and snag Warren with 17th to cover your SF spot.

No I don't. The celtics where 12,000,000 over last years 58m cap. Danny Ainge has a reputation to going over the cap limit and paying the tax needed to have a better team. Ainge averages 11 million over the cap during his years as the GM. So ainge will be willing to pay the tax each dollar he goes over. Since they where over 12 million last year he paid $2.50 for each dollar over, he would pay $2.50 with this roster in 2014-15 since he would b ten million over. And here is proof.

Amount over tax threshold   Standard tax per excess dollar   Repeat offender tax per excess dollar
$4,999,999 or less           $1.50                                   $2.50
$5 million to $9,999,999   $1.75                                   $2.75
$10 million to $14,999,999   $2.50                                   $3.50
$15 million to $19,999,999   $3.25                                   $4.25
Over $20 million                   $3.25 + $0.50 per $5 million   $4.25 + $0.50 per $5 million

Like I said earlier, Ainge will go over if he wants to win now. And probably won't if he wants to rebuild. But ainge rebuild? unlikely!

1. Boston could sign Hayward for around 7 to 8 million, I just played it safe with the 10 million a year.

2. Okafor for 3 million is playing it safe to, and we don't really need him if we get Sanders. I just was looking for a good bench. We could get Ekpe Udoh for 1 million and still get the same production Emeka Okafor offers.

3. We could let Avery Bradley walk if we get Hayward too. Which saves 4 million.

So let's take away Okafors 3 million, Bradley's 4 million, take 2 million off of Hayward's deal and add Udoh's 1 million dollar deal. That's 8 million saved right there.

4. If Boston re-structures Kevin Love's and Rondo's expiring contracts, Boston could save money there to. By giving Love 18 million a year and Rondo 10 million a year, that's a combined 28 million, instead of the old 29 million combined. That's another million saved.

So take the 9 million that Boston just saved by those four moves off the books. That would take 9 million off of the old 10 million over, and leave Boston only about 1 million over the cap.

I'm just playing it safe with the contracts in the article above.

So it can happen and there is a 68% chance it will happen according to the NBA experts that I sent the article to and whom replied.

It's not a question of willingness to spend. It's a question of the rules of the NBA. Discussions of tax penalties are not relevant to the conversation, because they have nothing to do with the salary cap, or cap space.

The Celtics will only be able to sign free agents using minimum contract offers, and the mid level exception, worth next year about $5.3 mil. They have guaranteed contracts owed to the following (in millions):

Rondo: $12.9
Wallace: $10.1
Green: $9.2
Bass: $6.9
Faverani: $2.1
Olynyk: $2.1
Sullinger: $1.4
total: $44.7

None of these contracts can be altered in any way.

Now, you also need to add in cap holds for Avery Bradley until he is formally signed to his next contract. That's $6.3 mil. You also need to add a cap hold for the $10 mil trade exception, assuming you wish to use it to acquire Gordon Hayward. New total: $61 mil.

Even assuming that Joel Anthony decided not to exercise his player option (all reports have indicated that he will), and that Ainge will simply cut all non-guaranteed contracts from the roster (Bogans, Pressey, Johnson, and Babb), you'd still have to include a cap hold for the #17 pick, plus a cap hold for the MLE of $5.3 million.

This is an incredibly simplified cap forecast for the Celtics next season, but it still shows that they will only have the MLE to spread around in free agency.

1.) We're over the cap with the TE and cap holds of Avery and Kris, you can't just go over to sign an FA. That's not how the NBA cap works, if we owned Haywards birdrights, that would be another story. Even so, he likely gets more that $8m per easily.

2). See #1.

3.) We'd have to renounce Avery's rights to just let him walk. Otherwise, any offersheet he signs in restricted free agency will tie up our cap until we decide whether or not to match.

4.) This is the NFL, you cannot restructure an NBA contract.

2021 Houston Rockets

I like that move to. I agree if Bradley demands more than 5-6 million a year Boston needs to let him walk. Playing Hayward at SG is also a smart move. But drafting TJ Warren at 17 wouldn't be the smartest move as he is a Score-First player and with Hayward and Love in the lineup Boston would need a guy that knows he will be the 4th scoring option in the starting lineup at the 3. I would say draft Cleanthony Early who is a defensive minded player to play the 3 alongside Rondo, Hayward, Love, and Sanders. If they draft Early they obviously can't take KJ McDaniels too; they could sign Xavier Henry, SF/SG, LA Lakers for about 3 million a year, and still get the same production off the bench that McDaniels would give Boston.

$10 million to $14,999,999   $2.50                                   $3.50
$15 million to $19,999,999   $3.25                                   $4.25
Over $20 million                   $3.25 + $0.50 per $5 million   $4.25 + $0.50 per $5 million

Like I said earlier, Ainge will go over if he wants to win now. And probably won't if he wants to rebuild. But ainge rebuild? unlikely! And Boston could sign Hayward for around 7 to 8 million, I just played it safe. Okafors for 3 million is playing it safe to, and we don't really need him if we get sanders. I just was looking for a good bench, we could get Ekpe Udoh for 1 million and he can do the same thing Okafor can and comes with less of a injury risk. We could let Bradley walk if we get Hayward to. Which saves 4 million. So let's take away okafor a 3million and Bradley's 4 million and take 2 off of Hayward  and add Udohs 1 million. That's 8 million saved right there. If the re-structure Love and Rondos deals, we could save to, By giving Love 18 million and Rondo 10 million. That's another million saved. So take 9 million off of the 10 million over. That would leave Boston only about 1 million over the cap. So I'm just playing it safe with these contracts. So it can happen and there is a 68% chance it will according to NBA experts after reading this article.

End thread.
2021 Houston Rockets

SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle

My Boston Celtics 2014 Off-Season Moves and 2014-15 Roster Predictions
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Free Agent Additions:
1. Gordon Hayward, SF/SG, Utah Jazz (5yrs 50 million)
2. Emeka Okafor, C, Phoenix Suns (1yr 3 million)
3. Brian Roberts, PG, New Orleans Pelicans (3yrs 6 million)
4. Jordan Hamilton, SF, Houston Rockets ( 3yrs 5 million)
5. Jan Vesely, PF, Denver Nuggets (3yrs 6 million)

Assuming Boston can acquire Hayward via the $10 mil TE, how are the others signed? Celtics will not have cap space for all of these players, only the MLE to carve up.

But they will have the space look at the chart at the bottom, I've done the re-search, asker the experts, and the chart proves it can happen.

You confuse cap space with room under the luxury tax.

The salary cap for next year is around $63.5 mil. Celtics will be over that figure if cap holds for the TE and Avery Bradley are factored into the Celtics cap situation.

http://data.shamsports.com/content/pages/data/salaries/celtics.jsp

1. They can't restructure your right my mistake. So add 1 million back to the books. That's still just 2 million over the cap.

2. If Avery Bradley wants more than 6 million a year, boston would quickly decide not to match any offer sheet.

3. Kris Humphries does not have a cap hold. His contract comes off the books this spring. So where he came up I don't know.

4. 2 million over? Every team in the NBA is almost over the cap by more than 2 million. Danny Ainge would quickly pay $1.50 per each dollar over the cap.

5. It can happen and you can't change it. I did my research, plus I've stated before I have checked with NBA experts from ESPN and CBS who said it could work and would be a smart off-season for the Celtics. So if you think you know more than the experts, you can keep pointing out these points that I have the answers for. Experts agree that it would work so that's all that is needed to prove it can work under the NBA rules.

TDog: this is a list of all salary commitments and cap holds for the Celtics for the forseeable future:

http://data.shamsports.com/content/pages/data/salaries/celtics.jsp

Until Boston renounces the rights to Kris Humphries, or resigns him to a new contract, there will be a cap hold on the Celtics books. This is also true for Jerryd Bayless and Avery Bradley.

It also looks like you are still confusing the salary cap and the luxury tax threshold. Next year, the salary cap is about $63 mil, and the luxury tax threshold is about $77 mil.

There is no penalty for being over the cap; there is for being over the luxury tax threshold.

If you are under the luxury tax threshold, you do not have cap space; you must be under the salary cap to have cap space.
