Lets see what happens.
For now i don't have confidence or fear that Love is coming to Boston. Matter of fact it sounds like the Wolves want no part in trading him to anyone and will do alot to try to have him stay. My prediciton is, Saunders, Taylor etc will have a meeting with him soon. Hear him out, hear his complaints. Hear about how disappointed he was with Barera not joining the huddle, team not making the playoffs since he has been in the league, naybe he has a problem with Pekovic or Rubio etc. Then Flip will try his best to accommodate his needs, trade whoever he doesn't like and assure him if by the trade deadline he is not happy and won't resign, he will get his wish and be traded. A good chance Love accepts this offer. Or maybe he will be adament he does not want to ever play for the Wolves again and needs to be traded asap ( he could sit out). So as a celtic fan dying to get Love in a celtics uniform, you got this hurdle to go through. Next problem is, is the Celts offer good enough?. If GSW or Wizards go for it and trade either Thompson or Beal, the Wolves imo will take that deal anytime of the year vs receiving the 6th pick and Sully. Plus you got Flip talking crap about the Celtic fans, Taylor prob still bitter about getting jack from the KG trade and frankly i see it as a longshot that we will have a chance to trade for him.
Yes, personally i don't want Love as a Celtic by giving up our assets but realistically it's not going to be easy to get him. If and only if our offer/package is the best there is and time is running out to make a deal, then there is a possibility the trade happens, regardless of how much Flip dislikes Boston.
Love made a public statement WEEKS ago that he doesnt intend to resign in Minnesota if he isnt traded. Dont you think Flip and Taylor would have had this meeting by now?
The fact that hes in Boston publicly hanging out with celtics players and seeing the city should lead you to believe that Minnesota and Love are farther apart than they ever have been.
Sure its easy to kick your feet up and say yeah it probably wont happen, because yes there is lots of things that can make a trade fall apart, but I guarantee you one of them isnt a GM being bitter with a few excited fans.
no watter which way you slice it, Saunders has repeatedly said he is not trading Love. He said it today. Love can say he wants out, he can kick and scream for a trade, but Flip has alot more control in all of this until Love is a FA in 2015.
Love can get spiteful and sit out, but he will lose money and tarnish his legacy playing in Minnesota. Basically he can never comeback to the city unless he wants a pie thrown at his face. Most players don't like to end their relationship with a city like this.
Also you have to consider that Taylor went through one horrible trade situation with the Celts, what makes you think he wants to again if at all possible? The Celtics offer will likely not be head and shoulders better than anyone else's offer.
Again its all fine and dandy Love is partying at Boston and shaking hands with Rondo, but he can't force a trade to Boston and Flip does not want to trade him. You calculate the odds of how likely Love will end up wearing a Celtic uniform by the start of this upcoming season
No offense, but I really don't think you understand how the NBA works. Agents and players run the NBA, and Ainge and Saunders pander to their every whim with hopes of getting things they want in return. Ainge has made several minor and major moves over the years to help other teams and make agents happy, and he gets his in return when his chances come up. Facilitating the Sheed trade to the Pistons was one such deal. Making a trade to give Toine his big contract in Miami was another.
Also, Saunders, Ainge, and Love's agent are all on very good terms, and are working toward what is best for all parties involved. I'm sure this has been in the works for much longer than we have heard in the media. There are reasons why Ainge collected assets at such a rapid pace and why him and Wyc kept referring to big moves this summer.
There was no horrible trade with the celtics that Taylor went through, both sides were pretty happy with their deal long term.
As for Love getting pies thrown in his face, really? Did Melo or KG get pies thrown in their faces in Denver and Minny? Not even close. Those towns still love these guys. Their fans know how the league works and most of the fans were happy to see their guys go for a title rather than waste away on their horrid hometown teams, sort of like how Boston fans were happy to see Ray Bourque go for a title elsewhere when it was clear that it wasn't happening here.
Lastly, the celtics by far have much more to offer Minny in a Love trade than any other team in the running. Your implication that their offer would not be the best is unreasonable.
