For what its worth, LarryBirdsFingr is a poster on the Celtics board and he knows people within the organization, he had this to say:
Hearing from 3/3 sources Kevin love is here for basketball reasons. In the past 14 days the Boston Celtics are now emerging as the #1 candidate for landing Kevin love. Love and his agents are actively involved in trade talks, which prompted this trip after determining that Boston was the #1 option as of this past 14 days."

It seemed pretty obvious why he is here before reading that , just more confirmation , kinda ...

i'm still hopeful that his visit means the possibility of an extension upon his arrival. maybe Minn. gets more in return if so.

does he even qualify for an extension right now?  i dont think he does.  I think we would have to make a verbal agreement with him and hope he keeps his word and signs the extension in 2015.  I could be wrong though, maybe someone will chime in.

When approached by the @BostonGlobe at a Boston hotel, Kevin Love said: "I'm sorry man, I can't do nothing (in terms of talking), I can't."

Ok I'm tagging back in.  Being a go to guy isn't about throwing in 30 a night.  It's about scoring when the team needs you to.  Whether it's about stopping a 8-0 run by the other team or making big shots at the end of the game.

This is the exact point that I'm making. If you read that as "Pierce was never actually a go-to scorer because his career high ppg never matched Kobe's or Iverson's" then you read that wrong.

Even with Love, the Celtics are going to have to find this guy.

This is where I think we're just going to have to agree to disagree, because if you think that Love isn't a guy that can be a primary scoring option, but another player who might be available to the C's in the next 24 months, like a Demarcus Cousins or Al Horford, is we're just not going to see eye-to-eye. In my opinion, Love's just as good of an offensive player as anyone else in the league not on that 2-3 player top tier.

I don't see what relevance any of this has when the disagreement is over Love being considered a go-to scorer or not, and Pierce, regardless of what teams he was on or not, has always been seen as a go-to scorer. In part because he's also been one of the best clutch players in the recent era of the NBA.

So, regardless of the argument of a team being successful or not... Pierce is a go-to scorer type of player. It's quite irrelevant to use him in any sort of comparison to Love's situation and capabilities.

The point is that Pierce was never a "get you 30 a night, every night" kind of a guy like Lebron or Durant are, and when he was contending for titles Paul was "only" putting up around 20 a night, but Celtics fans pretty universally consider Pierce to have been a legitimate first option even though he never put up individual scoring seasons like Kobe did. If Pierce topped out around 26 a night on non-contenders, I don't understand why someone would argue that Love is a significantly worse player when he's putting up similar stats right now.

Ok I'm tagging back in.  Being a go to guy isn't about throwing in 30 a night.  It's about scoring when the team needs you to.  Whether it's about stopping a 8-0 run by the other team or making big shots at the end of the game.  That was a major problem the Celtics had last year was they had no one to go to when they needed a big hoop.  Pierce was that player for most of his career.  Hell, the Nets were still relying on him for that this season.  Even with Love, the Celtics are going to have to find this guy.

You are aware that Love had the 3rd highest offensive win shares percentage in the NBA last season (behind only Queen James and KD)  The entire notion that he is not an iso player for the final shot is a futile argument when talking about wins...after all Mr. Invisible (aka Jeff Green) is one of the most effective last minute shooters in the NBA...didn't really matter all that much.

Kevin Love grew up watching old tapes of 1980s Lakers-Celtics games.

?When other kids were watching Big Bird, I was watching Larry Bird.?

Making this sort of trip at this time makes it seem as if Love isn't just considering Boston but is actually interested in the Celtics.  That is great to see from a superstar.

would this end the talk of no big star wanting to come to Boston ? Most likely not because it would be a "trade" , no way would a free agent ever sign here though  ::)

I'm having more and more of a feeling that Ainge and Minny are close enough in talks that Love's agent gave him the "go, see the city, and just keep an open mind" talk. Hopefully he enjoys himself.

Still a couple people here hesitant about adding Love...  but give it a year and you'd see threads titled, "Kevin Love best Celtic since Larry Bird".
