I will attempt to link Draftexpress Youtube "Wiggins vs Smart 2014 matchup video."

The purpose is to watch a top draft prospect actually playing basketball in a "big" game against another top draft prospect.

I don't care if a guy can dunk against an inferior player....which takes care of 97.9% of all Euro league highlight videos.

Smart is a big gamer. This vid shows us Smart defending Wiggins. Wiggins looks like he's 19, but, is an extraordinary talent. Smart shuts him down, which he should do, he is a more experienced player.

Smart will improve offensively, but, does Ainge want a "developmental offensive player?" Olynyk was marketed as one of the most "polished" offensive players in last year's draft.

I can see why Marcus smart has many fans....is Ainge one of them?

My guess is Ainge trades the pick...somehow.

Nice video.  At the end it said  that Wiggins only scored one basket on Smart in the three games they played against each other.  I know that they weren't matched up the entire time, but they were for a decent amount over three games.  I find that quite impressive.

Smart or Gordon and I'll be pretty happy.

If the C's are looking to draft a PG, I hope they trade down and draft Elfrid Payton instead of taking Smart.  Smart to me is going to be very average.  Payton is quick and explosive, good defensively, and very good at creating for his teammates.  Knock on him is his outside shot too (like Smart).

How does someone give 110%? I get what you are saying but it's impossible.

Smart is an option but I'd rather have Gordon.
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

Smart = a more muscular Tony Allen.

He's got much more basketball sense than Tony Allen. Smart is a much better passer and ball handler, Allen is a better defender.

Looks more like a bigger and better Marcus Banks.

His form is getting better, and I think he can be taught to stop bringing the ball down before he shoots.

Also, the book on Smart says:

Quote
Struggles mightily on jumpers when guarded. Release slowed by bringing the ball down to his knees before rising up and releasing.

While the jumper looks smooth in this video, I don't see anything that's addressing the issues pointed out above.
This reminds me somewhat of issues with Wall.

He gave 110% throughout the game in every game I've seen him play.  His desire to win is evident on the court.  His playing style is similar to a shorter, stronger Dwyane Wade (including the flopping). He can distribute the ball like a point guard, play off the ball, post up, and drive to the rim without fear of contact.  He's a tenacious defender, good rebounder for his size, and chases after loose balls.

I think the questions are: is he a 1 or 2, his shooting, and his shot selection.  I think he can play point guard.  If we trade away Rondo, I think he'd be a good pick for the Celtics.  If we keep rondo, I'd rather go in another direction.

I'm with you, I like Smart a lot and think he's a lock to be at least a solid player.  I'm not sure he has star potential because he's not all that good finishing around the rim but if he can get to the line and become a solid jump shooter, he'll be an above average player who can play on the ball, which would make him a core 3 player on a good team.

I don't think there are any questions about his position.  He can really play point guard.  One, he has the handle.  It's not flashy but he can bring it up against pressure, play pick and roll and handle with speed.  He's actually really good going coast to coast.  He has the big requisite of a handle down.  After that, he can create for his teammates.  He is really good at finding his teammates on pick and rolls, timing his bounce passes just right.  Then he's good at penetrating and dumping off as well as driving and kicking.  If a player can pass in a variety of situations and also handle the ball at an above average level, he can certainly play point guard.

Marcus Banks was one of the lowest basketball IQ players in the NBA.  He made a show of rushing the ball down the floor and then had no idea what to do so he just pounded the ball looking into empty space.  Smart is not that kind of player.

Smart's shooting percentages would have been better if his coach hadn't run pin down screens from the three point line for all his guards.  That kind of shot is only reserved for the sharp shooters in the NBA and he had Smart chucking those every game.  It was beyond asinine.   When Smart wasn't shooting pin down screen jumpers, his shot selection could still be suspect but he varies his game.  Smart's stroke is just fine and against point guards, whom he should enjoy a height and length advantage, he should have more than enough clearance on his jumpers.  I could see Smart improving his shot like Kyle Lowry has and I think Smart was a better shooter coming into the NBA.

Between Smart and Gordon, both could have lots of positive defensive value but there are less questions about Smart's scoring ability than with Gordon and while Gordon is a good passer, Smart's ability to handle the ball better should give him more playmaking opportunities.  Smart could be a featured player while Gordon could be a high value role player.  I'd go with Smart.

I believe Smart has the mental makeup, skills and physical tools to be a star in the NBA. I think once his jumpshot improves he will be unstoppable.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
He's really slow for a PG. Doesn't shoot good enough to be an SG. Slow release too. I see bust potential.

Marcus Smart posted an impressive lane agility time of 10.82 seconds, and according to ESPN Stats & Info, that time was better than the times John Wall, Russell Westbrook and Chris Paul put up when they were at the combine.
-ESPN

The guy is lightning, he's taking it easy in this workout.
He's also not an exclusive PG but has had to play PG in college because of Oklahoma's system.

He's 6'3" tall with a 6'9" wingspan
And his college stats are eerily similar to Dywane Wade's stats.
People say his shooting percentages aren't good enough at 45% but in the NBA he'll be getting to the rim and subsequently the free throw line loads more than college.
People have to remember how restrictive college can be on a particular style when coaches need their best ball handler to execute the offense.

I'd also say his defense is arguably the best after Gordon and Wiggins of the wings.
Speed, size and strength with a killer mentality and he gets to the hole at will.

This is the reason I like him more than Gordon as far as players outside the top 5.
Both hard workers, passionate and big/strong/fast with elite defensive abilities- but Smart has natural offensive instincts and knows how to score and get to the free throw line.

D. Wade 2.0

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

At the :38 second mark Danny Ainge is seen sitting over in the corner giddy as heck (black vest, blue shirt).
[/b]
This kid is a flat out steal at #6.

Next to Danny Ainge is Mike Zarren.
A few rows up, Austin Ainge.

I just have one question: how can we ignore that Marcus Smart is, by all accounts and stats, the most competitive, tough, ready to play prospect outside the top-4? I mean, Gordon? Vonleh? Saric? Come on... Maybe Randle can be in his group, but with Olynyk and Sullinger still developing, I would take Smart in 0,0012 seconds.

Smart is only an option if everything goes wrong for the Celtics

Love is NOT signed ....Rondo s future changes.....Gordon not available , Vonleh not available

I see a very slim chance for this guy being on the Celtics.....

He maybe a Timberwolf  #6

At pick #6, if the Celtics could end up with a reasonable facsimile of Westbrook's impact on the game, then they should be thrilled.
