If Kelly Olynyk was in the 2014 Draft, Where would you take him?

Knowing what I know, I would take him 6...

My point is I think right now he is better than most of these guys.

That is not saying much for this draft.

what???????????
LET'S GO CELTICS!

No way he goes 6th or even lottery. I think late teens to mid 20's is a good prediction

no way he is top 6. late teens MAYBE. MAYBE.

He went 13th in a draft with considerably less talent.  He'd be a year older and would have exhausted his full college eligibility.  I think he'd be a late first rounder at best, along the lines of Napier.

Mistakes were made. Why do you think so many GMs called him the steal of the draft in that NBA poll after summer league? What does steal of the draft mean to you?
You mean before he even played a game.  Wouldn't the rookie of the year who was drafted 11th be considered a bigger steal than the guy who went 13th?  Or maybe the 1st team all rookie that was drafted 24th?  Or how about the 1st team all rookie that went 22nd?  Or maybe the fellow 2nd team all rookies that went 21st and 15th?

Olynyk had a nice rookie season, but he was the 13th pick in a historically weak draft (both beforehand and after their respective rookie seasons).  Olynyk would be lucky to be a first round pick in this draft.  Even if you counted his rookie season, I don't think he goes in the lottery in this draft.  Just the sad reality with Olynyk.

Olynyk's not a superstar but he's a pretty skilled 7 footer. While he might drop a little in the draft but dropping into the second round is just silly.

Unathletic, five year college player.  Not that silly.  Even Payne is only projected as a mid-late first round pick at best, and he's an athletic specimen.

2nd round is too far, IMO. Skills on a 7 footer are pretty rare. That said, he'd probably be out of the lottery. Early 20's perhaps.

Adrien Payne is not an athletic specimen.

Not being Andrew Wiggins or Zach LaVine =/= not being an athletic specimen.

He is a lot more athletic than Olynyk though, which is sort of the point.  Payne is also a much better outside shooter than Olynyk ever was.  Payne is projected in the 20's by virtually everyone.  I think Payne would go ahead of Olynyk if Kelly was in this draft, so that makes Olynyk at best a player taken in the 20's.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Really, the only positive point for Olynyk going relatively high is that McDermott is projected in the late lottery and he was a four-year student.

... McDermott also had a far more celebrated college career, though; arguably among the greatest scorers in NCAA history.  Plus, he'd be a year younger.  That year matters a lot.

Late first-round pick at best for Olynyk and after the McDermotts and Paynes and potentially even the Napiers.

All of this makes me rather happy.

If our very own olly would be relegated to the latter part of this year's draft, then imagine the potential talent ainge will pick at number 17 this year. :)

We can realistically expect two more players, both of whom are better than olly?

Color me pleased.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

I think Kelly would be in the 20's. He would have torn up the NCAA again this year . .. quite possibly to a larger degree than the year prior. His stock would certainly be 1st round quality.

I hope Danny can swing another late 1st / early 2nd to nab Spencer Dinwiddie. He'd be a solid utility man for years to come.

I think this is the best way to view this, especially if the Celtics keep the picks. If they trade the top pick for Kevin Love, then just how good Olynyk is doesn't matter because he will be relegated to a bench back up role for a very long time behind Love which by the way is the role Danny Ainge has envisioned for Olynyk from the first day he drafted him.

EVEN AINGE SAID HIS UPSIDE WAS THAT OF A COMPLIMENTARY PLAYER!!!

You're reaching all over the place to bash this kid. Danny didn't trade up into the lottery, giving up two high 2nd rounders in the process, to draft a bench player.

And he didn't call KO's upside a bench complimentary player. He called him a complimentary player, in part to take pressure off of him at a time Boston fans were looking for a hero.

If he turns into a 20 minute per game big coming off the bench who can help a good team win games,  those two second rounders will be well worth the cost of moving up to get him.

"There were some other guys that were there at 16, but Kelly was a guy that we think complements [Rajon] Rondo and Avery [Bradley] and Jeff . He's just a really good complementary player. He's not a go-to guy, not a star player. He's like a really good teammate type of player and complements other guys."
