If Kelly Olynyk was in the 2014 Draft, Where would you take him?

Knowing what I know, I would take him 6...

My point is I think right now he is better than most of these guys.

That is not saying much for this draft.

He would be taken right after smart/vonleh at 8-10. The KO we know. Next seasons version could be really good though

If we could only judge off what ge showed on college he wpuldnt have been a top 8 pick lets be real.  He was picked 13  in a significantly worse draft

His stock would probably be at  level a  little below Adrien Panye. Both senior bigs that are skilled and can shoot. Adreian Payne is a good athlete, Olynk isn't, so think Payne has the edge there. Payne will pribably go 15-22  so Olynk would go 18-25. Again, this is only judging by everything he did before last season.

McDermott was a clearly superior player in college and proved it over a longer period of time.  And he's going to be lucky to crack the top 10 in this draft.  Now, if KO can become an adequate defender and continue his offensive development, he might turn out to be better than some of the guys picked 4-8 in this draft but that's another question.

Most Celtics fans are oblivious to KO's potential, which he showed steady flashes of just about every game after the all star break. He also seemed to do better every single game where he got extended minutes.

He has as much offensive potential as Jabari Parker. He's a 7 footer with great handles, and when he is aggressive he is unstoppable. Left hand, right hand, floater, fadeaway, KO has a full bag of tricks and he is working hard right now on his strength. At 7 feet with his moves, and his outside shot, very few can guard him adequately.

He went 13th in a draft with considerably less talent.  He'd be a year older and would have exhausted his full college eligibility.  I think he'd be a late first rounder at best, along the lines of Napier.

Mistakes were made. Why do you think so many GMs called him the steal of the draft in that NBA poll after summer league? What does steal of the draft mean to you?

I love Kelly, but agree with this prediction, based on comparison to Payne, which is spot on.

No way he goes 6th or even lottery. I think late teens to mid 20's is a good prediction
PHX Suns: Russell Westbrook, Chris Bosh, Tristan Thompson, Trevor Ariza, Tony Allen, Trey Lyles, Corey Brewer, Larry Nance Jr., Trey Burke, Troy Daniels, Joffrey Lauvergne, Justin Holiday, Mike Muscala, 14.6

Its possible he might be a second round pick in this draft. Let's remember, we have to assume another year at Gonzaga and him coming out as a 5 year senior with little to no upside and needing to prove he could contribute right away. Guys like that with unproven professional games tend to slide and go late first and into the second round.

I am still not 100% convinced he didn't overachieve his last two months in Boston because, well, someone has to put up numbers on a bad team. Someone has to shoot. And let's be real. Teams weren't really guarding the Celtics with a lot of enthusiasm towards the end of the year because they knew they could simply outscore the Celtics to beat them because the Celtics offense was pathetic. KO's last couple months might just be the best basketball he ever plays in the NBA.

You left out his defensive abilities?  why?

I agree. I wasn't rooting for Danny to pick him last year, but I think he got the best player in that draft, excepting potentially Noel. He'd be in my top six now, as you say, 'knowing what I know now'.

But most fans here don't see him that way; some do.
