Trade 1: offer to pick Gordon for Houston with our No. 6 in exchange for absorbing Asik with our TPE. Trade 2: Offer our our 17th pick, The clips pick and one of the Brooklyn future 1st rounders together with Wallace (as filler), Bass (expiring) and Bogans (cap relief) to New York for Melo.

Why would you give up the #6 Pick for a 1 year rental of a highly overpaid Asik?

I think the #17 and the tpe might be an overpay for Asik.

Because in this scenario, we give the Rockets a prospect who helps their perimeter D without losing useful veterans, or existing prospects get some much needed rim protection, as well as keeping enough assets to pusrsue a Melo type scorer via trade. Granted both big names will be on expiring deals, as well as Rondo, I reckon a rotation of Rondo-Bradley-Melo-Sully-Asik as starters, with Green, Olynyk, Faverani, Pressey bringing positional and tactical versatility off the bench does well enough to become a mediul term contender.

The 6th pick is worth more than Asik.

There's a chance we can get Asik for the Clippers pick (while absorbing his contract), or we could possibly even get a Rockets pick if we take on both Asik and Lin.

As for Carmelo, I don't see any circumstances where the Knicks would take on Wallace's contract in a trade for him.

Giving up the 6th pick for 1 year of Asik is crazy.

Hell, giving up the 17th is tough.

The Rockets want to dump Asik, for one, as there's no use paying him 15m(?) to sit on the bench. Another thing is this draft is crazy deep. And 15 mil, while not all counting against the cap, is a steep cost.

I'm a fan of getting Asik but I don't think he'll cost us too much. I think swallowing Lin's salary to take Asik is a pretty good idea.

The Rockets NEED to move Asik's salary to make a play at any big ticket free agent, ala Melo.  We'd be doing them a favor trading for him using our TPE. We don't need to give them anything of value.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
If we are trading the #6, then I want Cousins or Drummond in return. The TPE for Asik seems reasonable, as it frees up cap space and gives them the option to bring in a quality player at a fairly hefty contract. I guess a decent 2nd round pick could also be included (what we received from Philly in the Crawford/Brooks deal - they aren't making the playoffs next year).

As for Melo, I would be all for it, but I think it would have to be Green, not Wallace.

Tthat's laughable beausee neither player is going to be traded.  Drummond is THE player the Pistons are building around and so is Cousins for the Kings.  The #6 pick has value but not nearly that much

the whole point to getting Asik from Houston is to get him at a bargain because Houston did a poor job at trying to trade him. now they have to accept the best worst deal out there.

Most of the comments have been on the Asik part of the trade.  I agree we could get him for the 17th vs. the 6th and then we would have the 6th to sweeten the deal to get Carmelo which is really the much harder part of the deal to pull off.

If the above is incorporated, you have the #6, LAC 2015, Wallace, Bass, and Bogans to get Melo.  I suspect that even this is not enough but say you do substitute Green for Wallace, that might get it done.  Then we have a surgically repaired Wallace coming off the bench behind Melo.  He would be overpaid but potentially fine in that role.

Rondo
Bradley
Melo
Sullinger
Asik

That isn't too bad and we still have plenty of picks 2015-2018 to work with.  The bench would be thin but still a decent team.  I am not in love with building around Melo but you could do a lot worse.

I love Asik but giving up the 6th pick for him is insane.  As others have mentioned, they want to get rid of him to free up cap space.  We should be able to get him for the trade exception and maybe a protected future first rounder.

I'm kinda sick of hearing those 3 names...Love, Asik, Melo.

Seems like these are the ONLY 3 players in the league.
Larry Bird was Greater than you think.

well they're the 3 most "possibly available" realistic options out there.

I love Ainge, but would fire him for this trade. Terrible idea.
