With exceptions and salary cap calculation.  I brought down Bayless to vet min and gave Pierce the full non-taxpayer MLE because we're under the tax line.

Rondo      $13,000,000.00
Bradley      $6,500,000.00 (Bird Rights)
Anthony      $15,000,000.00
Love      $15,719,063.00
Gortat      $9,000,000.00
Napier      $2,000,000.00 (Rookie)
Belinelli      $2,873,750.00
Pierce      $5,305,000.00 (MLE)
Olynyk      $2,075,760.00
Pressey      $1,000,000.00
Bayless      $915,000.00 (vet min)
Johnson      $915,000.00
Faverani      $2,000,000.00
(empty)
(empty)

Salary without exceptions: $61,583,573.00
Total: $76,303,573.00

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD MELO ISNT GONNA TAKE A $8.5 MILLION PAYCUT TO PLAY IN BOSTON!!!

He might. He could be ticked off to the fact the 3 of his fellow drafties have multiple rings. Who knows if they've been rubbing it in his face. No way NY could put that kind of team together right now.

He could always work a contract that builds a bit more. Plus if he wins, the endorsements would make up for that lose of revenue.

It is very obvious you don't understand the CBA and the Salary Cap.

To get below the CAP you have to renounce all Exceptions - Bird and the TPE.  Also, it's tricky to go below the Salary Cap to sign a FA and then use the MLE, it can be done but not in your scenario.  Bradley or Bayless could not be renounced.  And I can't see anyway you can get below without renouncing them.

So Bradley and Bayless are gone.  And besides AB wants 8M not 6.5M, not saying he'll get but in your ideal team he's gone when you renounce him to get below the Salary Cap.

Further, there is no way Melo is signing for 15M - GUARANTEED.
Nor is Gortat signing for 9M.  Also Wash is not doing a S&T Green for Gortat.  Why would they?  They just made the playoffs and he and Nene play well together.

Also, what did you give up for KLove besides the players.  How many first round picks?

Sorry can't remember how you got Bellini, but can't really see him leaving SA, especially if they win a ring.

This whole proposal is SILLY.  You really need to read Larry Coons FAQ on the Salary Cap.

And by the way the total Salary for that team is 76M you can't subtract TPE.  It just allows you to trade for a player making that much money + 100K.  We have a 10.3 TPE so we can add a player for a max of 10.4M.

Your Ideal and Realistic Roster is just SILLY.  Pls read Larry Coons FAQ on the NBA Salary Cap.

I think you lost me at Melo for $15 million per year.

I didn't make it past us getting Love for just the #6 pick/Sully and getting rid of Wallace.

That team would win the chip, but.. Not realistic  :-\

I really do want Napier as our back up point though.
Love that pick.

The players I really want the celtics to draft is

Marcus smart or McDermott or Anderson or Napier, all of which I watched slot of games on and see high potential from them all. High basketball IQ from all of them aside from maybe Anderson.

I may have to go through the numbers again though in terms of the application of the exceptions.

I'd like you to go through your numbers and calculate where the Celtics are right before they acquire Carmelo Anthony according to your plan, then show that acquiring him is legal under the CBA.
He can not do that because as I pointed out, just before he signs Melo, to keep all the rest of his scenario able to happen, he would have no cap space.

But you already knew that LC. ;D

Anderson probably has the highest basketball IQ of these guys.   Anderson, in fact, played PG occasionally.  I am not saying that he is the best of them but it is well known that he is a smart player.

1. The Celtics won't have enough cap room to sign Melo

Rondo, Love, Green, J. Anthony, Faverani, Olynyk, Johnson, the 17th pick(Napier), Pressey, Bradley's cap hold, Bayless' cap hold and Babb comes to about $59 million. That leaves $4 million in cap space

2. You forgot to add the sixth pick to the Love trade and would probably have to add two others, one for Love and one for taking on the Wallace contract.

3. I didn't included the traded player exception in the cap room of $59 million meaning if I did you would have to add another $10 million in salary and have zero cap room.

4. You can't use the MLE and the cap space in the same year making getting Pierce with a full MLE salary impossible if you use the cap space but without the Melo signing Pierce probably doesn't sign here as the chances at a title would be close to zero.

5. If you are drafting Napier, there is zero chance Pressey's non-guaranteed contract goes through. This team does not need nor will Danny keep two raw, undersized backup PGs unless he is trying to tank. This isn't a tanking roster so get rid of Pressey if you draft Napier or keep Pressey and draft someone else.

1. Green's not a cap hold if he's traded to WAS, J. Anthony traded to SAS as I mentioned.

2. Definitely didn't forget the 6th pick, it's actually the first thing listed in the trade.

3. Not using the TPE in this scenario.

4. see below

5. This is a good point.  I just happen to like both Pressey and Napier, but we can either keep Pressey and draft a big, or let go of Pressey and take Napier.  Either way, here are the salary numbers that included both Pressey and Napier:

Rondo      $13,000,000.00
Bradley      $6,500,000.00
Anthony      $15,000,000.00
Love      $15,719,063.00
Gortat      $9,000,000.00
Napier      $2,000,000.00
Belinelli      $2,873,750.00
Pierce      $5,000,000.00
Olynyk      $2,075,760.00
Pressey      $1,000,000.00
Bayless      $2,000,000.00
Johnson      $915,000.00
Faverani      $2,000,000.00
(empty)
(empty)

Total: $77,083,573.00

There are no other holds listed that I can find, so this would be the salary situation.

I may have to go through the numbers again though in terms of the application of the exceptions.

So many problems wrong here.

#1.  The TWolves aren't taking Wallace so you can forget that.  Plus that trade offer wouldn't even get them to answer the phone, because it's not nearly enough.

#2 Melo isn't coming here and actually I don't want him to.  He's  ball hog and not a SF defensively at all

#3.  The Wizards aren't going to trade their double/double center for an extra piece which is what Green is for them.  They will just sign him for 9 million per year.
themselves

#4.  Why would the Spurs do that trade when the are in in now mode?  The answer they wouldn't.

#5.  An this is smaller but there's no way Bayless signs for the vet minimum at less than a million per...

Beyond that yes it's doable... :)
