In the case that Ainge lands Kevin Love this summer, I was wondering if it was possible for Boston to then go after Luol Deng. Deng is as good as gone in Cleveland, and I'm pretty sure not even having the #1 overall pick will sway that decision. They did express interest in Jeff Green last trade deadline. So, I was wondering: Is it possible for us to concoct a sign-and-trade for Deng using Green as our main trade piece under CBA guidelines?

I can easily see us getting Deng if we trade for Love. There is not much in the way of us acquiring Deng if we want him, and he would be a great fit with Love and Rondo.

I am not wild about Deng on a post-Love Celtics team.

An okayish fit but not a great fit. I'd love another shot-creator alongside K-Love (and Rondo) but Deng isn't that and his contract will make it extremely difficult to get one. Not a strong floor spacer (three point shooter) either which will be necessary to compensate for lack of top level shot-creation + likelihood of a defensive orientated and likely limited offensive center.

Plus, loads of payroll in a K-Love + Rondo + Deng trio so that will make it difficult to get said said quality defensive center + fill out supporting cast.

I think I'd rather just stick with Jeff Green.

I agree.  If we can get him, Pierce with our MLE, and maybe trade Green as part of a package for a rim protector I'm all for it.

I like Deng but don't see him as much of an upgrade from Green.
Deng stats per game: 16 pts., 2.9 assists, 5.7 rebounds and shot only 30% from 3 pt. line.
Green stats per game: 17 pts., 1/4 assists, 4.6 rebounds and shot 34% from 3 pt. line.
Deng got paid $14m last year and is a free agent at age 29.  Jeff Green is 27 and is $8.7m and $9.2m/yr. for next two years.

Yes, it is.  I think if we convinced Deng to sign, Cleveland would participate in the sign-and-trade for Green straight-up.  I started a thread about this 2 days ago.

To Houston: Bogans, Babb, Pressey, lottery protected Clippers pick
To Boston:  Omar Asik

To Cleveland:  Future second rounder, trade exception
To Boston:  Deng

Asik / Faverani
Love / KO
Deng / Johnson / Wallace
Martin / Bradley / #17
Rondo

Love:  $15.72m
Rondo:  $12.91
Wallace:  $10.11
Deng:  $10.0 million (first year salary)
Asik: $8.37m

That team looks like a No. 2 seed team in the East.

Of course, we'd definitely need a backup PG.

That team could REBOUND the ball.  All sans K Martin are excellent rebounders for their positions.

I dread having to watch Martin with his schoolyard form which still manages to go in on our team.   His form is horrific.

That being said this deal would still have some flexibility once Wallace came off the books, too.  I like it.

I love luol deng as a player but cant see him being that much better than JG to be worth the money, remember that last year against NY with some attention being spread around the court (pp, kg) JG was putting up borderline all star numbers

I don't know. Unless we need to use Green in either a Love trade or for a Big protector, I don't see why. Green is similar, yeah maybe Deng is a little more consistent, but with Love I could see Green being a little more free having a lot of attention towards Love.

Love would open the lanes quite a bit for Green, and Green is also a better 3pt shooter, which is really needed, especially if AB leaves.

All though I'd wouldn't mind not bringing in Martin, moving Green to the SG and having Deng at the SF.
