If Love isn't sign to a long term contract, then I wouldn't do it..if they trade for Love and he bolt after one season, it will sent this franchise back another 5-7 years
Yeah, this is a big reservation of mine as well. If the Celtics surrender so many assets for Love (and Asik) and things don't go swimmingly that first season, the Cs could see Rondo, Love, and Asik all leave in free agency.
The Celtics would be left with a great lot of nothing. Hope you're ready to suck for the next ten years.
I just don't think Love is the type of player to leave especially if there are hints that he would like to stay.
Obviously if for some reason we don't make the playoffs, and Love is here. I can't see him staying. He has admitted he just wants a new scenery, but I think he meant he would love to enter the playoffs for the first time.
I think he's like every other star in this league. Unless he's on a glamour team with a bright spotlight, he wants to play with talented teammates who know what they're doing, with an experienced and proven coach and for an organization that isn't incompetent.
The Celtics offer some of those things, but I don't think Rondo alone would be enough star power to guarantee that he sticks around if things don't come together that first season.
Of course, I absolutely agree, if I was in Love's position, I would want to be playing with talented teammates, and a proven organization, and a proven coach.
Brad Stevens isn't exactly that type of coach right now. His first year could be determined by people with different perceptions of success. I thought Brad Stevens did a pretty good job, and got players to play hard for him. There were occasional turnouts with Wallace, Lee, and Bogans, but stuff like that happens in a losing season.
If you believe BOS is a big market team, then BOS should able to give Love the proper media attention that he deserves. Marketing wise, Love being a young superstar in the making, is also going to want to demand some media coverage at least.
The only positive thing is that Rondo is a great pass first point guard who can compliment Love well, and Danny Ainge is a masterful GM. No one expected the 2007 blockbuster trade to occur, and it did. Love to me, just sounds like a guy who's lost too many games, and just wants to try a taste of the playoffs. Love/Asik/Rondo alone should get us in the playoffs in the weak East. After that it depends on what Ainge does.
Personally, I think Ainge is hoping to grab Love, go to the playoffs, and figure out what the team needs to focus on strengths, and weaknesses. What possible roster changes, and trades that he can conjure, and try to go after someone in FA in '15.
