I'm in favor of acquiring Love or Carmelo. We have the draft picks to get it done.
That said, if they can't make a major acquisition, then they do need to trade Rondo. He won't want to be a part of a rebuild and I can't blame him. They should be able to get a top ten pick for him.
Smart seems like the most logical replacement for Rondo at number six. Then Gordon, Saric, McDermott seem like the best options to me. Plus, we have pick number 17.
We'll likely be back in the lottery next year. It will be a frustrating season to watch, but at least seeing the young guys develop will be interesting.
Next year, there are some good looking centers in the draft. Okafor, Towns, Miles Turner, and WCS. Draft Express has videos of Towns dunking... very impressive. Hes 7 foot with a 9'5" standing reach, and already 245 pounds. He has an outside shot and hook shots and surprisingly he's only ranked 4th or 5th in early mock drafts. Okafor is listed ahead of him. In other words, we should be able to get a good center if we're back in the lottery.
By the 2015/16 season, We would have a good collection of young guys and the Brooklyn picks to use to upgrade positions or add to the team. It will be another frustrating season, but the patient route may be the wisest way to go. That said I still want Love or Melo.
