Before the season, I was desperate to get a Top 8 pick... so much so that I felt we needed to trade Rajon Rondo in order to ensure that we'd get a Top 8 pick. From what I had been told, this was a ridiculous draft with upwards of 8 potential all-stars... Wiggins, Parker, Embiid, Exum, Smart, Randle, Gordon, Vonleh.
Over the course of the season, the names shifted a bit and tiers formed. We ended up with the #6 pick and didn't even need to trade Rondo to do it. I'm totally happy with it. We'll either add a bluechip prospect or use it as a major trade asset. That was the plan all along. If you were going to tank in any year... pick a year where there were 8 potential all-stars. I get that people aren't thrilled, but Aaron Gordon should be a nice piece to add. Ainge is smart. We'll make out well.
Top 3 pick was always a major long-shot. Boston was never bad enough to sink that low. I realistically considered the possibility of us winning 35-41 games and sneaking into the playoffs accidentally. Thrilled with this outcome. We have plenty of assets now. Let's see what Danny does with his gold.
