I could get on board with Marcus Smart there.  Would be an interesting look next to Rondo, and could be a real emotional leader and crunch time focal point for the team if Rondo ends up getting traded.
There'd definitely be no mistaking them for the Splash Brothers.  I'm not high on Smart myself.  I don't think he has great PG skills, and I don't think he shoots well enough to play the 2.  I also don't think his bully ball style will translate well to be more physical NBA.  I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up an energy bringing, defending backup combo guard.  I'd definitely pass on him at six.

Rondo and Smart together would be the nastiest, most fiery backcourt in the NBA. Could be a really unique intangible advantage- the kind of thing that wins playoff series. I like Bradley and think we have bigger needs at C and SF, but I wouldn't be upset with Smart at 6. He's got that winner mentality.

bigger needs at SF? People are that over critical of jeff green it is laughable. there are very few trades i would actually want to do in regards to Jeff.

Yikes--I'm not seeing that backcourt at all. Two guards who can't shoot the 3 and are challenged at the FT line.

I don't know enough about Saric, but I'd take Vonleh or McDermott over Gordon or Smart.

Why? Sounds a lot like Dwyane Wade youre describing there...

No great PG skills - check
Poor jumper - check
Physical style of play - check

Hmm...

Personally I like Vonleh as the first choice and Smart as the backup solution.

To me there is just no question here.  Vonleh has the physical gifts, the skill level, the potential (only 18), the positive attitude, and he fills an immediate need with his ability to score and defend in the post.  That's my pick.

As a second pick I will go with smart because he's really the only other guy outside the top 5 who is a two-way player, and so even if he never becomes a star he will at least be a very good starter who can score and defend..
Plus he's tough, and even though he's not an elite athlete he has the size and strength to make him a handful for a lot of NBA guards to deal with.

After the guys is a rough call...Gordon or Randle?

Gordon can really defend, but he'll be a non-factor offensively against NBA talent.  Randle could become a capable scorer and rebounder in the NBA, but his poor defense and unspectacular jumper hold him back.  I'll probably go randle because I think he has more potential to become a star (Zach Randolf/Carlos Boozer style) while I really think Gordon will max out as a really good defensivw role player in the mould of Gerald Walace.  I think scoring is more need in Boston,  since we already have a good defensive SF in Jeff Green.

Right now I'm going to just hope Embiid doesn't give his medical reports to anyone before us and that scares them off.

And if we stand pat and no one falls, I really like Gordon.

Maybe trade down a handful of spots and pick up a 3rd 1st rounder in the mid 20's? Nab 3 players total . .. and acquire a big time shooter, a tall athletic wing and a Euro big man?

If we stay at 6, I have a feeling Aaron Gordon is Danny's guy. I have no idea how he fits into this roster, but that's not the point. DA will want the guy with the unique athletic talent, rebounding and lock down defender capability, with intelligence and room to improve on the offensive end. He could rotate with Jeff & Crash at the 3 and with Sully & Kelly at the 4.

My biggest concern is that that team (w/ Gordon) will, again, struggle offensively.  It's not going to be pleasant to watch.

I'd also not trade down and bulk up on picks.  This team doesn't need more draft picks.  They need to start cashing in on some of them and mid-late first rounders aren't gonna cut it.  Strike on the #6 pick or move it as part of a package for an established talent.

When we look at our roster, we can't not take the best player on the board because of the players on the roster.

Essentially the roster is a mismash of parts and there will be tremendous fluidity this summer. If Ainge thinks Randle is the best player we can't not take him because he have Sullinger and Olynyk. If he thinks Marcus Smart is the best player, you don't pass on him because of Rondo. No matter who we pick there is going to be movement, probably in the front court.

If we dont trade for Love I'd almost rather trade our pick back and get Saric and Nurkic

That's one way to look at it.

The other way to look at it is that close to 70% of the people on here don't like Gordon at #6.

I'd take Vonleh, Saric, Smart and maybe McDermott depending on workouts  before Gordon.

Smart.  He's long, strong, great defender, adequate as a PG.

Needs work on his shot but he is going to be really good in this league.  Book it.

  • Eagerly Awaiting the Next Fantasy Draft
Aaron Gordon, elite athlete, will come in and defend multiple positions extremely well. Will crash the boards, run the floor and give you 100% every time he steps on the court. He is also the youngest player in the draft, combine that with his athleticism and reported work ethic and you have a player who will be very very good for a long time.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19
