Is Magic a role model? Put down your sheeple media feeder apparatus for a second.

Magic said before that the game mostly came to him and he didn't have to put in the work like some of his teammates.

He was a legendary Basketball player.
His pre-post marital sexual behavior isn't something I would hold up as a good example.
He never indicated the infection came from a dirty needle at a hospital.
He could/may have passed the infection to others at a time when the mortality rate was not what it is now and he always had the advantage of money to battle this.

Sterling is a loon but he's speaking non P.C.

Unless you wanna say Magic is a role model because he could put a ball in a hoop?
His civic awareness increased after his own staredown with mortality ...he said and wrote as much.


BTW ...I don't think this is the PR mess you think it is.
He looks like a crazy uncle and the more folks who are younger look at Magic the folks will shrug and say...well....he really isn't exactly a role model...

This is not the disaster you think. I think he finally is playing the game.

Yes, Magic may have infected others, but he may not have.  He also may have been Wilt Chamberlain-esque in his womanizing, but he may not have.  He may not have practiced safe sex, but he may have.

You could read his or Jerry West's book ya know. That would be helpful to clear up some may have and may have not's

He has been sued by individuals and by a former NBA player. His wife was trolling their properties for dirty Mexicans
 Housing disrimination lawsuits and work related discrimination lawsuits in courts filed by lawyers and presided over by judges gets no action from the N.B.A. but a call to a mistress...that does?


What was it about Sterling that made him repulsive last year when he courted Doc?
For many it was his long documented discrimination practices. For others I guess it was just another bandwagon.

I was gonna ask your's but read that sentence a couple more times and  realize I don't wanna know your point.

He gets claims leveled against him, sued in court and doesn't get banned from his arena for a single day but gets heard on the phone being the known racist he is and gets stripped of his ownership and banned for life.

And that's cool cuz of what happened before. That's very convenient.

I still don't see how anything Sterling said has an iota of a strand of a connection to Magic Johnson, aside from the fact that Sterling brought him up.

There's a big difference between being the defendant in an ultimately unsuccessful lawsuit and being caught on the record saying racist things.

About your employees who are basically not replaceable and are also organized as a union and then threatened collected action in response to those comments.

Of course the "SQUIRREL" defense is still in play apparently, along with the idea that because he wasn't punished immediately its wrong to punish him now.

I think a lot of the weird tangents you see come from a knee-jerk desire to defend Sterling coupled with the high social undesirability of defending Sterling as a person or his actual comments.  So you see a lot of attacks on anything and anyone vaguely connected to it.

It is really interesting to watch.  Especially the folks who are deeply concerned about a slippery slope and then immediately turn around and demand a slippery slope be used to punish someone else.

OTOH there's at least one poster here who thinks Magic's been faking HIV for a quarter-century now, so there's probably some pre-existing animus for some people too.

Sterling pretty clearly hates Magic on a level even he's in denial about.

Keeps claiming he admires him, blah, blah and then just starts trashing him in some pretty vile ways.
