I just realized today that I really am a Laker hater.
Old man lunatic to the side...
Is Magic a role model? Put down your sheeple media feeder apparatus for a second.
Magic said before that the game mostly came to him and he didn't have to put in the work like some of his teammates.
He was a legendary Basketball player.
His pre-post marital sexual behavior isn't something I would hold up as a good example.
He never indicated the infection came from a dirty needle at a hospital.
He could/may have passed the infection to others at a time when the mortality rate was not what it is now and he always had the advantage of money to battle this.
Sterling is a loon but he's speaking non P.C.
Unless you wanna say Magic is a role model because he could put a ball in a hoop?
His civic awareness increased after his own staredown with mortality ...he said and wrote as much.
BTW ...I don't think this is the PR mess you think it is.
He looks like a crazy uncle and the more folks who are younger look at Magic the folks will shrug and say...well....he really isn't exactly a role model...
This is not the disaster you think. I think he finally is playing the game.
Yes, Magic may have infected others, but he may not have. He also may have been Wilt Chamberlain-esque in his womanizing, but he may not have. He may not have practiced safe sex, but he may have. I don't think of Magic as a role model, I think of him as a retired basketball player/ businessman/ bad TV announcer. Like most people, I presume he's done good things and bad. We shouldn't worship him, but unless we know of what we speak, it's probably not very nice to condemn him.
You say 'non-PC' as if that's something we should admire regardless of the content. If he's got dementia or mental illness, I forgive his verbal mistakes. But I don't praise a person for speaking his mind when what he says is unnecessarily unkind. I like it when political correctness causes people to think twice about the words they use.
BTW, as a 55 year old middle-class (ish) Jewish man, I'd like to know where the interest-free loans are. No one sent me that memo. But if anyone can connect me to that resource, I have a 200,000 mortgage with 20 years still left -- I'd love to zero out the interest.
