Rondo to Indiana for Roy Hibbert.  Who says no?

Why Celtics?  Celtics biggest need is rim protector and it gives the team a young center of the future in a league with very few good centers.  It allows Sully to play his natural position.

Why Pacers?  I am assuming Indiana gets bounced soon, and Hibbert has been regarded as being an under-achiever.  Rondo gives them a veteran PG who could put them over the top.

I don't think either team would do this trade, but the Pacers would probably be a bit more reluctant than the Celtics just because centers are tougher to find than point guards.  It's true that both teams have holes that could be filled by the other team's player, but by making the trade they'd be creating new holes.  For the Celtics, I can see the logic because like you said, centers are tough to find and they may be more confident they can find a point guard in the draft or via trade.  For the Pacers though, a large part of their identity is dominating around the basket, and Hibbert is the main reason for that.  Yeah, by trading him for Rondo they'd probably have an easier time scoring, but they also probably will no longer be the dominant defensive team they have been the past few years.  The trade wouldn't make them a better team, just a different one.  That being said, I wouldn't want the Celtics to build around Hibbert because he's useless unless you play a very slow, defensive-minded style that I'm not sure can win a title in the modern NBA.  I'd rather build around a guy who's a bit more versatile.

Probably Indiana and maybe Boston.

Maybe add a third and send 17 to Houston and, if Boston really wanted hibbert, this could get it done.

I like this idea but I think Indiana says no.

I know Hibbert has laid an egg this season headed into the playoffs, but fact remains he's still a young, legit 7 footer who can play a big role in leading a team to victory.

Don't think Larry deals him to another Eastern Conference team for Rondo.

I could however see Hibbert being involved in a deal for Indy to get a more consistent PF/C in return like Kevin Love, Demarcus Cousins or maybe even Asik.

He's less than a year younger than Rondo.  Yet, many fans seem to consider Rondo an "old/past his prime point guard."

I'd prefer to say no.

Individually both players are great, all-star talents. Team-wise however, they fit very specific styles of play.

If Rondo is gone, Boston needs a player in return that can create for themselves and be utterly dominant. Hibbert has proven in the past two-three seasons that he waivers too much, similar to Jeff Green. On the other hand, Indy does truly need a better guard that George Hill, but Rondo isn't that guard. They have too many ball-dominant players already in Paul George and Lance Stephenson. They aren't really catch and shoot guys aka not the type of players that fit with Rondo.

In theory this is a good idea but in reality I don't see it helping both teams significantly.

I don't see the point of this trade for Boston and while I get it for Indiana, they say no.

Having Rondo on Indiana is cool, but he would have to sign an extension.

Not sure if Boston would be interested.

I don't think either team does it.  I'm sure they'd love to get the players in the deal but the transaction kind of becomes pointless in light of who they're giving up.  basically lateral moves for both teams.

I am assuming Indiana gets bounced soon

I am not making this assumption.

I prefer this Rondo trade:

Rondo to OKC, future protected first round pick and Jeff Green to Houston
Westbrook and Perk to Boston
Asik to OKC.

-We get to upgrade Rondo into a legit 1st option scorer who also is younger; Perk won't help us win many games, but at least we can play Sully and KO at the 4 more often which helps their development, and he's expiring.
-OKC plugs their one weak position (Perk is one of the league's worst starting centers) and gets a better complementary PG for KD.
Houston gets to turn their disgruntled, free-agency-bound center into a good sixth man and a 1st round pick.

I've never heard anyone criticize Rondo for being "past his prime."

So you think Rondo can return to being a top fifteen player in the league next season?
