At some point luck will kick in.....we get a break though a trade with a player who is unhappy like Love or Cousins,  Rondo is traded,  or the lottery has mercy on the Celtics.

If luck fails , then you try and increase your luck , like Philly .  Tank it to the limit,  as many years needed to restock the team with centers.

NBA gas forced this method upon teams , even the richest need the draft to rebuild .  Once Ducan and Durrant are gone their teams will drop like rocks.

I think what Phily did was what most teams will have to do eventually.

NBA is so much about luck

I think unless a legit center arrives in Boston by summers end .....we are headed for another one or two years tanking min.

Stevens May gave to go if that's  the plan.

we will see

Why would Stevens have to go? He would be great at developing young talent and molding them into a contender. It's exactly what he did at butler. Why would one or two more years of bad teams affect his ability to coach. He can only coach the talent that Danny brings in. I think if they weren't committed to him long term, they would have hired a previous nba head coach so he could be the scapegoat if they don't succeed. I don't see an analytical and players coach like Stevens being that scapegoat, but I could be wrong.

Yeah, I think Stevens is a fine coach, and players will want to play for him.  It's not like Spoelstra had to go when the Heat got LeBron + Bosh.

With all do respect to Love and Bosh, they aren't centers. Love in particular, he's mediocre defensively and he gets A LOT of help from Pekovic who is an absolute beast in the middle.

Outside of a chance at embiid im really curious to see how danny is going to get a legit center.

Gortat is in no way a real solution. Asik better but the same.  I like mozgov's potential and it will be interesting what the wolves do with pekovic/dieng situation(try to pry one)

I wonder if there are any top euro centers(better than fav) available we could try to sign

Greg Monroe should way up there he is very young and a good scorer, also he plays pretty good defense. Detroit won't be reluctant to let him go since their frontcourt is really crammed.

Monroe is definitely not known for playing good defense. The biggest weakness in his game is his defense. I also doubt Detroit is going to just let him walk because their "frontcourt is really crammed". They will still look to get what they can for him in a S&T before letting him walk, assuming they don't re-sign him themselves.

I disagree with your Gortat assessment. I think he's a much more well-rounded player than Asik, and I think he could be Boston's starting center for at least the next three seasons, which would be way more stability at that position than we've had for a while. And he put up 31 and 16 tonight against Hibbert and West.

He is inconsistent but definitely tonight was a huge game for him.  If he was more consistent on both ends i would be happy to get him

with Asik it is rare he will score 30. But he will give you defensive effort game after game

If Gortat and Asik were available for the same cap hit I'd go for Gortat every day of the week. Unfortunately Gortat has probably played himself into a contract that's a fair bit higher than 8.5m

It's always interesting to revisit some old Gortat talk.

I'd just like to point out Gortat averaged more blocks per36 while keeping the same defensive rating as Asik. I think Gortat is certainly a legit option at center.
