Just wondering...With everything that's happened the past few days with the Clippers organization, does it make the 2015 draft pick a piece the C's would likely want to keep, no matter what, because of the unpredictability of that organization's future?

Saw a post in a prior topic that pointed out they wouldn't move the pick b/c of LA being "up in the air"...I actually agree with that sentiment.

Is the Cilps pick now the "hidden gem" of our assets?

It was always the hidden gem. Anytime you can get a team to hand you a future pick with no protections on it, that's a real asset.

I would love to see DA get interviewed about this.  He would probably be going "what a terrible (muffles laugh) situation.  I hope the league sorts this out and (snert) that asset is not something I feel comfortable talking about right now" (then he immediately high fives Wyc in the background)

When trading draft picks, we either should trade the lesser of our picks next year, or the greater (depending if we're going after a major star or an Asik).  That way we don't have to worry about trading the good pick accidentally.  At the same time, if we're trying to trade the good pick, it essentially gives the team we're trading with two chances instead of a great pick instead of one, thus increasing the value.

Thank goodness, the thread title had me thinking that this was heading in the direction of "Boston is a racist city and will suffer because of this" or something along those lines. I'm happy it isn't.

If CP3 and other clipper players are off the board we can actually get a top pick in 2015
it is exciting

I thought we already have their pick and it's set. I didn't know it was a future one.

I figured the Clips pick next year would be a valuable one mostly because I figured
1) Doc would be exposed as overrated by his second season.
2) CP3 and/or Blake would be due to miss significant games due to injury.

I had no idea that if the Clips do tumble as I expect next season, it'll be due to the stupidity of its owner.  I thought hiring Doc and giving away a 1st for him was about as foolish as he could have been.  I was apparently wrong.

At this point, C's should hang on to that pick as an asset as valuable as the unprotected Nets picks in 2016 and 2018 and that ability to swap in 2017.  Clips may not implode next year but no way to know until next season runs its course.  I would have to think this would impact their ability to draw FAs and possibly retain their current talent.

I don't think an implosion is imminent.  They've still got Paul, Griffin, Jordan, Crawford, Redick and the rest of their core under contract.  Barring a major season-altering injury, that team wins at least 45+ games, even under the worst of circumstances.  I mean, they won 56 games under the largely inept Vinny Del Negro.  They won 57 this year with CP3 missing 20 games.

So, it's unlikely (although not impossible) that this pick is going to turn into some amazing asset.

Agreed.

But it does add to the case being made for the future being incredibly uncertain.

Beasley bust. Greg Oden bust. Rose's injuries. Pacers implode. Sterling's stupidity.

You know, I've always heard adversity builds character...why wouldn't that be the case in this situation?

They lost game four but now have had a few more days to digest things and to put them into perspective.  While Sterling may be the owner, were they playing for him?  Or were they playing for the fans?  Some have written that the fans should boycott game five...same question, do they come to the games because of Sterling or because they are fans of THEIR team?

Sterling is an old man, from another generation.  There will be measures taken by the NBA and sponsors and others regarding his words.  But the fans and the players should stay focused on what the season is really about.  They should not flush it down the drain because of the comments that were made.

Again, adversity CAN build character...it's now up to the fans and the Clippers themselves to see if it will.  If not, then that draft pick might end up being a really great one.

Is the Cilps pick now the "hidden gem" of our assets?

It was always the hidden gem. Anytime you can get a team to hand you a future pick with no protections on it, that's a real asset.

I think it's obvious that it was a great piece or a 'gem' when we got it given Blake and cp3's injury history. The Naceltic is spot on though, it's become a rarer gem :) and increased in value with this Sterling crap and the timing for us is perfect.
Just the extra value it has for us this upcoming draft night is beautiful because Danny can use the 'who knows what's gonna happen if Doc leaves' /what if scenario.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

It could become valuable if Paul and Blake demand and receive trades.
