Get lucky and draft Embiid, then get any one of the SG/SF with our second pick (James Young or Zach Lavine). Make a minor move to grab Cleanthony Early at the end of the first (Really good potential if hew works on his handle).

Let Bradley walk.

Sign Emeka Okafor to a maybe two year deal, to keep us away from real financial risk.

Then we have:

Rondo/Pressey/
Lavine or Young/Johnson
Green/Wallace/Cleanthony Early
Sullinger/KO/Bass
Embiid/Emeka Okafor/Hammons

SO if this happens can we start to compete again or will this not be enough?

Oh an I forgot to mention draft AJ Hammons from Purdue in the second round.

I don't think that's a particularly competitive roster in the short-term.  Whether that justifies further tanking is a matter of debate, but I think we'd end up with a fairly high draft pick again, because that squad just wouldn't be very good right away.

That team would not be ready for prime time either.

It is a start to a rebuilding project.  Chances are, the team would still be in the lotto.

It would take time to become contenders, but I'd certainly be optimistic about that team. I don't know if we need to let Bradley walk, and we'd have to flip Bass for a 3-pt specialist (Jimmer or someone better) and make other moves to upgrade the bench.

But Embiid/Healthy(?) Okafor, Sully/KO, Green/Wallace, Bradley/Young, Rondo would make a formidable core. We'd certainly be able to be middle of the pack in the Eastern playoffs near term with lots of room to grow.

The question is if we would NEED another top draft pick with that core, or would it be good enough to focus on winning and not on ping pong balls?

If we go through a Phoenix Suns year (Having a bright roster and HC, barely missing the playoffs while waiting for our boatload of future assets to cash in) I'm alright with that.

Boston has 2 1st round picks.  I do not believe Boston has a 2nd rounder this year.  Correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyway, I want nothing to do with Zach LaVine.  He's not even close to being ready.  Personally, I think he made a mistake by leaving college.   I like 10-12 other players at #17 ahead of LaVine.  hopefully he is gone already so Danny isn't tempted.

I'm with you. I think Hood, Young, Warren or Anderson would all be better picks.

I was very high on the tank committee this year.  But, no matter what happens this off-season, I hope we no longer have to root for the C's to tank.  Next year, we hope for a Clippers collapse, and the following 3 years, we can root for the Nets to tank.  From here on out I root for the C's to win!

not a bad starting point but we have no second rounder and very unlikely we'd be able to buy another first rounder.
I think there will be better talent at 17 than what you're proposing.  also, I wouldn't necessarily jettison AB.  I would expect his value will be very affordable after the season he just had.

The key to your proposal is Embiid which is just pure optimism at this point (and there's nothing wrong with it)

Team should be better next year.  We will make roster moves/signings with the goal of winning in mind.  THis year the goal was clearly to bottom out and add flexibility/assets for the future.

I think Boston is ok with tanking once a decade... back-to-back years really isn't their style.  They'll re-focus on winning next year even if it results in a 38 win season.

We can assemble a better roster than this, and we won't be tanking next year.

In terms of the players you've suggested. I'm a big fan of James Young, but i really dislike Zach Lavine. I don't think Lavine gets taken until the second round. This draft is too deep and we will have better options at 17, imo.

Okafor isn't a bad idea. But if we entered the year with two centers who ended last season hurt, theres the potential they won't be healthy right away.

A lot of people said that about Westbrook. He could really thrive in Stevens system with Rondo feeding him. That goes for Embiid too.
