Well this thread is depressing...  ???

How about this?

Philly pretty much has no reason to lose purposely anymore. Milwaukee isn't winning there last two and Orlando can't catch them. Philly has been playing hard lately too. In their last five games:

Beat Boston
Lost by only four to nets
Lost by eleven in Toronto who is giving everything for 3 seed
Lost bad to Memphis who is playing for playoff lives
Lost by only six to Charlotte

Philly is playing better ball and tomorrows game is phillys last home game.

Washington has to finish a game ahead of Charlotte to get the sixth seed and avoid Miami or Indiana. Charlotte plays Atlanta next who now has nothing further to play for. If Charlotte wins that game them Washington is playing at full force in game 82.

Lol so we could lose our last two and finish at 25-57. If Utah beats la tomorrow and both lose game 82 then we have a three way tie for fourth best lottery odds.

Washington is blowing out the Heat, Charlotte can get no closer than one game back by the end f tonight. It looks like Washington holds any tiebreakers so will they mail in game 82 if it doesnt matter?  Could easily be our 26 th win.

Soooo....the celtics arent playing tonight and are going to lose. (Makes me wonder if Rondo didnt nudge the guys and tell them to tank the night off #pun)

Im a tank nerd but not even I know this one.

What is better lottery wise for us, a 3 way tie for 4th or the 5th slot outright? I assume the tie for 4th but Im not sure

In terms of lottery balls, it's almost identical. 90 lottery balls in a 3-way tie, 88 balls if we're 5th outright.

The tie for 4th also has a chance of winning the coinflips and being 4th in the order, giving us no extra Ping-Pong balls but a better pick if our numbers don't come up in the top 3.

Of course there's also an equal chance of being 6th in line under the same system.  Haven't run the numbers but I'd expect tie for 4th is slightly better, but nothing dramatic.  And nothing close to the value I'd put on definitely being higher than the Lakers.

It's also worth noting that San Antonio has a high chance of completely blowing off the regular season finale.  Of course, their deep bench should probably still be favored over the Lakers.

I guess I want LA to win. A bird in the hand is better than two in the  bush.

Charlotte has the tie breaker. Beat Washington 3 out of 4 times this year H2H.

As long as David Sterns minion is master and overlord of the NBA you can be 100% sure that the Lakers WILL have a top 3 pick. Best for business

I think i want the jazz to lose. Then the celtics increase their claim on sole possession of the 5th spot. But either way, perhaps the pong pong odds are the same.

I think silver is far from his minion. From what I understand and been reading he's been trying to distance himself from stern.

Quote
Adam Silver’s first month in charge was distinguished mostly by how hastily Silver distanced himself from his old mentor. Many of Stern’s administrative cronies had already been forced out, and Stern’s surprising absence from All-Star Weekend in New Orleans wasn’t exactly random. A new generation has emerged behind the scenes, with Silver flanked by new assistant commish Mark Tatum (a beloved hire), NBA Entertainment honcho Danny Meiseles, merchandising guru Sal LaRocca, global media head Bill Koenig, and Adam’s right-hand man, Jarad Franzreb, among others. The current group of owners with the most influence — ranging from the old guard (Peter Holt and the Reinsdorfs) to the newer old guard (Stan Kroenke, James Dolan, Wyc Grousbeck, Mark Cuban, Ted Leonsis) to the new guys (Vivek Ranadive, Joe Lacob) — all believe in Silver and have his back, both publicly and privately. They like the guy. That’s not a sentence you heard about David Stern very often.

I think you're right and at least it hurts the lakers odds.

since Charlotte owns the tiebreaker with washington, if bkn loses tomorrow to knicks, bkn could lose wednesday night and end up tied with washington (and i believe wash owns the tiebreaker with bkn) and that would drop bkn to the 6th (better for our second pick) and also leave miami to face them in the second round, that would be great

That be awesome!

I've been disappointed that it appears miamis road to the ECF is soooo easy! Avoiding nets bulls and pacers before ECF is weak. Plus having a better pick would be great.

I really would love to watch a Miami vs Brooklyn series in the semis.

So we want LA to win, I thought if the Jazz won were in 4th and if LA wins in 5th?

If the jazz win, we are in a 3 way tie for 4,5 and 6. That opens the door for a 7-14 team to jump into the top 3 and the coin flips could result in boston sliding down to the 7th spot.

Whereas if Boston has sole control of the 5th spot, i think their odds put them pretty solidly in the5th or 6th spot.

I kind of want to see the math on the remaining odds scenarios... But let's see what happens in this tanker tilt.
