Here's my plan/suggestion:
Green and our lottery picks (#5 or worse) to Houston for Asik and Houston picks (25ish).
That gives us a defensive anchor who can play any center, defend the PNR and defend the rim. It also gives us 2 first round picks. I think Houston would do it as it gives them a player in Green who shoots the 3, can run, can play multiple positions and 3-4 times a year can carry a team. It also gives them a lottery pick they can groom.
Next I go after Loul Deng. He's not very happy in Cleve, I try to work a S&T using our TPE and a first round pick, maybe even give them the pick/picks we have coming from Philly.
Then I tender AB and hope no one gives him a big deal. I'd sign him to a contract 3 years, maybe an option for a 4th at 5-6M.
Then I wait and hope for Minn to implodes next season and try to land KLove. But even without Love, I have: Asik, Sully, Deng, Rondo and Bradley. Bass - Olynck - Pressey - Anthony - Wallave - Johnson - Vitor and 2 first round picks - Maybe Kyle Anderson/Staukus/Harris and another rookie. If we are able to get Love, Sully would most certainly go plus others and draft picks. Asik - Love - Deng - Bradley and Rondo would be pretty decent.
We'd also need another shooter, preferably a guard.
Anyway, it seems that both Asik and Deng are or will be available this summer. I think, Love will be if Minn gets off to a bad start. At least, that my plan and rationale.
Houston does that trade without even batting an eyelash - that is grand larceny for them. They trade up into the top 8 by shipping a guy they don't want, plus a late 1st rounder. One season of Asik is not enough for a top 8 pick. If there is a way to acquire Deng without trading the lotto pick I'm more inclined to listen.
First, I'm not sure that Houston would do that deal. And I disagree that it's too much for Asik. Yes, Asik will be a FA in 2015, so we'd have to resign him. just as we'll have to resign Rondo. Asik, is our rim protector and he's an excellent defensive player. In fact, I would call him a dominant defensive center, maybe as good a DHoward, although he's limited offensively. However, he is an excellent rebounder both offensively and defensively. If we can't pry Love away from Minn, it allows Sully to play his natural PF position. As for the 5-6 or 7 pick, who do we get? Wiggins, Parker (if he comes out), Imbiid will all be gone and probably Exum. So we'd have our choice of Randall, Vonleh, Gordon or Smart - 3 PF and a another PG who's not a good shooter. And we'd be paying 3+M for that pick in salary. Also, picking up Asik, might give us the shot at getting Deng who is not happy in Cleveland.
Now I wouldn't mind Danny swapping the 18th pick, but don't believe that Houston would include the 25 pick in that scenario and Houston might not make the deal at all.
