We have generous and wonderful team owners in Boston...no complaints here.  They've gone above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to spending over the salary cap limit to get the best talent available.

Unfortunately, we have some NBA owners who seem to have no regard for the salary cap restrictions/penalities.  Specifically, I'm looking over the salary NBA salary structures and note that the Nets are $48 million over the cap while the Celtics are at $12 million. (Sure, we were higher in the past.) The Knicks are not far behind at almost $30 million over.  http://www.spotrac.com/cap-tracker/nba/

What does that mean for the future signings for free agents (yes, I know we are debating tanking, picks,etc....sorry for the distraction.)  The following is a link to possible free agents in 2014... http://hoopshype.com/free_agency_2014.htm

Speaking hypothetically, Lebron and Bosh could both opt out of their contracts.  This might make sense considering Wade's injury problems seem to be getting worse every year.  And, championships are what these players want.  Wouldn't it be most logical to take their talents to Brooklyn where the owners seem to have endless pockets and there is a pool of established talent?

Granted this scenario is unlikely to play out, but still that leaves several other potential signings they could make.  For instance, signing Bradley for $12 million.  This would be 3-4 million over what he is worth.  But, if salary limits mean nothing to an owner, wouldn't this type of signing make sense?  I'm not just talking for this year.  This could go on year after year.  And, who knows what secret agreements they've made with agents they may have planned two or more years out?

Again, I am not knocking the Grousbeck's, Pagliuca or the Abbey group.  They are and have been great owners.  We are quite fortunate.  The sad thing is they are competing with other wealthy team owners who don't know the meaning of the phrase "too much money".

You still need cap space to sign free agents, though. Brooklyn is so far over the cap that signing a free agent like Lebron isn't plausible. They're limited to offering around $3 million per year.

Thank you....I didn't realize there were restrictions on free agent signings.
