So what does everyone think about tonight?  Rondo sits, they win and get 6 guys in double figures.

This year:  6-23 (.206) with Rondo...   18-32 (.360) without him.

Last year:  20-23 (.465) with Rondo... 21-17 (.552) without him.

... but those assists, tho.

Thoughts?

Hypocrit is my thought.   I thought you wanted us to tank?  Shouldn't you be happy with the results?

but instead, he's leading the entire league in how often he holds the ball.
Last I checked, this was John Wall. And that Simmons comment is full of his usual exaggerations. I mean, "sloppy ball handling," Rondo's usage is about the same as last year but his TOV% and TOs per game are lower than last year. Although, he's right about the defense. Rondo has been intangible.

And to the poster above, OKC would not trade Westbrook for Rondo in the past, I doubt they'd do it now.
Is it Wall?  I didn't bother checking for myself.  Here's an article from a couple days ago on CelticsBlog:

Quote
Rondo possesses the ball 7.6 minutes per game, according to Sport VU; but he is in control of the ball 22.9 percent of the time he is on the court, which leads the NBA and is the root of the problem late in games.

Rondo simply has the ball in his hands too often. During the fourth quarter, he has fallen into his old habits of walking the ball up the court and not initiating the offense earlier in the shot clock.
Wall leads the league in mpg of possession with 7.9 minutes and Walker leads the league in touches per game at 101. So at least he doesn't lead the league in that sense. And I don't think that's necessarily our problem. Everyone else on the team is a sub-par to average ball handler at best. When Pierce was here, I'm sure the number was much lower.

Tim Welsh said many of the same that's been talked about Rondo lately. He said that Rondo holds the ball too much and Pressey did a much better job at pushing the pace, passing the ball early in the clock, and the team had much better ball movement as a result.

Perfect storm for a Celtics win..tonight

No Walker for Bobcats......this doomed them.
Celtics don't have Rondo....who I think is tanking at least on personal level to get talent on this cruddy team

The rest of the Celtics shot lights out .

Pressey is playing for his life, a contract , everything......we wants to make it in the NBA .

Even if costs the Celtics future talent needed to contend one day

Stevens ...is wrong thinking he can coach any group of NBA talent to a title......maybe in College , not in the NBA where there are LeBrons around.

He is stubborn .....Rondo , Joel , Babb should have played to ensure a loss.

Danny ..probably wants to tank
Rondo.....wants to tank
Stevens .....thinks sitting a few players tarnishes his reputation ..... ::).....he ain't tanking at all ....not even a little bit .....during the last games to help us get a better draft choice.

Everybody is NOT on the same page on this rebuild

Rondo will leave .....Stevens is being hardheaded .....Danny a man of his word not to make him sit players.....

So there it is .....a screwed up mess.

  • Let's Go Celtics!
It will be very interesting to see how Rondo plays next season either here or elsewhere assuming he'll be sharing the court with some ball-dominating scorer or two.

I'd guess the same way it looked for years when he shared the court with PP. He's been in the league for 8 years yet a surprising number of Celtics fans have no idea what he'll be like from year to year.

Just quoting for truth. I find a lot of the "frustrations" stem from expectations of what some believe Rondo should be and not who he actually is.

I don't get it - Rondo is coming off of knee surgery but he's not allowed to go through growing pains? How many surgeries has Russell Westbrook had in the past year? Derrick Rose can't stay healthy.  But Rondo is coming back from an ACL tear and is supposed to go right back to his all-star self. Spoiled much Celtics fans?

AB post game comment about Pressey:

"His defense, he was everywhere. He was just hustling. He go the fans into it. Phil's a very good player and he played a very good on both ends of the floor. He got everybody going. If you weren't into the game, he definitely got you into it. He played really good, player of the game to me"

+1.  Rondo is of course a much more talented player than Pressey. But right now Pressey is playing with more effort.  The team is being influenced by his energy. He is getting everyone involved.  There is Synergy.

Rondo on the other hand is trying to force the team to play the way he is used to playing with 3 HOF on the team. It's not going to work.  Maybe it will work if Danny can magically trade for Love, Melo etc. If he can't, Rondo will do very little to help this lineup.  I been saying this like a million times now, but Danny has to choose path A or B.

I know he is aiming for path A (obtain big name players) to play with Rondo, but if not , trade Rondo draft Exum or Smart (who are also energy players) that will work well with Pressey coming off the bench (the team can expect the same kind of pg out on the floor at all times) and lets go from there

It just seems the way some root for the team, because they care about the long term health of the franchise, is they poop on everything.

Poop on Rondo, poop on Bass, poop on Olynyk, poop on the team.

Everything is poop until we get a star. The star doesn't get pooped on.

Then when the star gets old, ala KG, he gets pooped on and blown up. Or blown up then pooped on.

So there is no hypocrisy. Everything is poop.

So the whole issue with this is:

Rondo is a better defender than Pressey BUT he also doesn't try a LOT of the time
Rondo can't shoot ft's and Pressey can
Rondo can't currently hit a jumper or hit a lay up. This all conspires to make whoever replaces him to have no big hurdle to look better than Rondo

Rondo can't shoot ft's and Pressey can

FT% this season:
Rondo 63.6%
Pressey 61.5%

Cool. I hope others will support Rondo statistically somehow. Imho the issue is that we won't see the real Rondo
until we see Playoff Rondo

What about Rondo for Westbrook?  Throw in a pick to even things out.  Or a three way trade in which Rondo goes to a contender (and extends his contract) and we get Kyle Irving?  I think there are multiple scenarios where we could get good value for Rondo.  The extra draft picks makes it easier.

Or we could trade Rondo and our pick for LeBron  ::)

For real though, why would OKC or Cleveland even remotely consider something like that?

A fair question.
