I hope he does.

Veterans win in the NBA, rookies don't.

What if Wiggins/Embiid/Parker becomes the superstars of the next generation and we're getting bounced in the conference semi-finals every year with Kevin Love and Rondo? I rather not take that chance.

Be patient and let the rooks play.

If you're worried about taking chances it's fairly unlikely that the draft pick will ever be better than Kevin Love. And I'm not a huge KL fan.

Why do you think it's unlikely?
PHX Suns: Russell Westbrook, Chris Bosh, Tristan Thompson, Trevor Ariza, Tony Allen, Trey Lyles, Corey Brewer, Larry Nance Jr., Trey Burke, Troy Daniels, Joffrey Lauvergne, Justin Holiday, Mike Muscala, 14.6

Depending on the veteran, I have no problem trading the C's first pick, even if its the #1 pick. If you could get a Marc Gasol, LaMarcus Aldridge, Kevin Love, DeMarcus Cousins, Roy Hibbert type big man or a star the caliber of Melo for salary filler and the lottery pick, you gotta do it.

But most of those type players won't be available.

Greg Monroe might be available but I am not sure he is the type center you want around Sully and KO and he is definitely NOT worth a top 3 pick. If its pick number 6 or 7, then yeah, I would think about it.

You would trade the number 1 pick for Carmelo or Hibbert?

Not Hibbert, but Melo..oh yeah.

Hate Melo with a passion but he is a better than anyone in this draft.

^This is from 'Big Al the Future.'

We'd have been waiting a looooooooong time for Big Al to lead us to a championship. Same will be true if we wait for Embiid/Wiggins/Parker to become a superstar.

Also, Kevin Love is very similar to KG in that he is an elite player at one end of the floor and fairly mediocre at the other. KG is obviously a better player if you take his whole career into account (and his offense was elite when he was younger) but KG was 30 when we acquired him, while Love is only 25.

No. Just no.

KG at 30 was still twice as good as Love is at 25.
Also, KG is a once in a generation/lifetime type player. Him and Pierce are in the same class as Jordan, Bird etc.

KG dominated both ends of the floor. Love's offense compared to what KG brought is nonexistent.

I am concerned that Danny will trade our lottery pick for a veteran, given the incubation period it takes for young uns to be able to contribute, and the desire to rebuild with Rondo fast.

I wouldn't worry.  Ainge is smart enough realize that Rondo is not the kind of vet you build a championship around.  We're not gonna half-ass this rebuild.

Did you ever see Bird or Jordan play? In their primes?

Yeah, I gotta question that too.  I love me some KG and PP, but they weren't in the same realm as Jordan and Bird.

Yeah, I try to stay away from the deification of players, but if anyone deserves it, it's Bird , Jordan, Magic, and, I'm really, really sorry to say it, Lebron (and, Russell, but I'm trying to stay current era).

KG in his prime for a year or two might have approached those guys but he doesn't compare when you look at the body of work.

He is probably a tier or two below, on par with Duncan, Kobe, maybe Shaq, although I don't think any of those guys dominated at their absolute best the way Shaq did.

it depends on the vet, but i would much rather a proven vet star over a rookie prospect 95% of the time

Why do you think it's unlikely?

Years of watching the league? Look at the top 4 draft picks from the year Love was drafted and the previous 9 or so (so you get a decent sample size). Figure out how many of those players were better than Love is and divide that number by 40. That will give you roughly the odds that a particular draft pick will be better than Love.

Depends on what kind of veteran we are talking about. Its not like  Danny's gonna dump our picks for  Amare Stoudamire.

You may be right about Lebron but I'm ready to elevate him to top 5 of all time if you want to look at the body of work. I WILL be ready if Miami wins it all for a 3-peat AND he shows another few years of top player and championship contender or winner further on.
