Heinsohn: Sit Rondo if bad habits continue

Couldnt agree with Tommy more..

Even wilkins said rondo holds the  ball way too long killing the offensive flow.

I remember when Rondo got hurt ,   All of a sudden the team took off and started winning .....even with the old folks

Was it just a coincidence ...

I like Rondo , one of my all time favs.....wear his jersey s a lot. 

Maybe the time has come and gone to trade Rondo

Somewhat. After his injury the C's had 7 of 9 games at home. Additionally they played a decent number of bad teams and some bad defensive teams in particular.

After that homestand the team pretty much was right back to playing .500 basketball.

Prior to that easy stretch the C's had a 6 game win streak and a 6 game losing streak. That team was streaky .500 basketball team.

I would love to read the whole article to put the quote in the proper context because the OP is leading us to believe Heinsohn is talking about holding the ball too much on offense but that's not said in the quote. Okay so I read the article.

Kevin O'Connor criticized Rondo for holding the ball too much but I didn't see that in Heinsohn's comments. Heinsohn's comments were more about setting the pace, not walking the ball up the floor and playing defense.

Read a recent article on ESPN discussing how Doc has grilled Chris Paul for being one of the worst ball dominant PGs in the league and constantly throughout the year has discussed and taught Paul that he has to advance the ball with the pass, trust his team mates to make the right passes and let the offense flow with him off the ball more.

All good stuff and stuff I think Rondo has to hear. But, Rondo isn't the off the ball shooter that Paul is so maybe Rondo is best utilized being the ball dominant player and the solution is to get better players around him.

I do agree with Tommy on Rondo needing to push pace. If you aren't an efficient offense then you need a faster pace and Rondo is falling into that bad habit. I also agree Rondo hasn't played good defense all year and has to give a better all around effort on that end of the floor.

I agree some with the holding the ball thing but I also think that maximizes Rondo as a player offensively. I also think Stevens' motion offense sucks and he needs to scrap it. Something in between Rondo holding the ball a lot and the true motion offense needs to be implemented.

Tommy said this yesterday during the post-game show while talking to Kyle Draper. Tommy said that Stevens has been preaching to push the ball up all year. Draper asked him what does he do if a player, in this case Rondo, doesn't listen. He responded "you sit him". To which Draper said, "but that's your captain, and Heinsohn responded "doesn't matter".

Heinsohn elaborated by stating that Rondo developed a lot of bad habits in playing for Doc because he grew to accustomed to walking the ball up the court. However, he spoke about how team was different and they ran plays in the halfcourt to perfection. This team can't execute like those veteran teams, so Rondo needs to get into sets faster to get shots in transition and have more time on the clock to run plays. His pounding of the ball was also criticized as another bad habit.

This is the first time i can remember Tommy openly blasting a player. Last night what Rondo did prob hit a nerve and he had enough. Since last season he kept saying that the team needs to push the pace when Rondo played. Don't let the defense set their defense

McLemore and Sacto's pick looks like an awesome return. Rondo's ball dominant game isn't well suited for Stevens' motion offense because he can't shoot. We are now 6-23 since Rondo returned. We were 13-24 with Crawford.

Huge pet peeve of mind.  A guy stinks and people want to trade him.  Never want to trade anyone that is good.  Well, if you don't like him, then why should someone else take him.

And frankly, that Rondo probably does dominate the ball is the single biggest reason why other teams may not want him.  That is what he is, and I am thinking teams don't believe he is good enough to dominate the ball and win with most other players.
