  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I happen to think Randle has way more upside and is currently a way better player than Olynyk. That's why I would keep Randle over Olynyk.

This is obviously subjective, but I do believe the 'potential' that Randle represents is definitely more valuable than KO in terms of trades. For that reason I would hang on to KO and trade Randle for another pick and a player that will help us moving forward.

Or, I would just take Exum/Smart/Gordon/Vonleh [maybe] and hope for the best.

Oh, I definitely agree that Randle is already better than Olynyk and has a higher ceiling than Olynyk.

I think Randle can be a bonafide starter in this league (I don't know about star, though).  Olynyk can be a rotation guy.

Despite that, given our current forward situation, I'd be disappointed if we ended up with Randle.

Their styles are so different, I don't think a comparison is very meaningful.  Randle is quicker, jumps higher, but plays within 15 feet of the basket, often posting up.  Olynyk has three point range, has more height, better ball handler and passer (some would say better BBIQ). Both pretty weak on D for sure. Randle a better rebounder in college, but KO not too shabby on the boards, especially 2nd half of the season on a per minute basis.

I wouldn't take Randle.  His game just doesn't impress me.

He's a good rebounder yeah, but he's relatively undersized at the 4 and has a pretty weak jumper, has limited post moves - the only reason he dominates against college talent is his physical size, which will no longer be an advantage once he moves to the NBA.

He's like a more athletic version of Sully without the jump shot, the IQ, the post proficiency or the passing skill.

I'd kinda like both Sully and Olynyk over Randle right now.  If it came to us to choose and he was next up on the board, I'd skip him and select Vonleh or Gordon (who reminds me of Gerald Wallace in his prime).

I'd prefer not to take another power forward.  I'm fairly high on Kelly Olynyk and think he can be our starting power forward by either next year or the year after.

I actually believe Sully might have some decent trade value.  If we can put together a package of Sully, Green, and our high lottery, we might be able to get a good center back in the deal.  Then, we take a chance on one of the many promising small forwards that will be left at the 18 spot.

Anyway, that's my dream for now.
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

If the choice comes down to Smart or Randle, I'd rather have Smart. I never really liked Randle much in the first place, and although neither play a position we're in desperate need to fill, I feel like Smart would have a more immediate effect.

Regardless, as others have said, if Randle is the best player available, then no complaints.

If you don't want Randle , then hope Orlando really screws up to put us in the top three .

There is no way Smart will be taken before Randle .....maybe 5 % chance any GM would do that ......he'd be flogged

Lol man, I don't know if they'd be flogged, but I know the position isn't a popular one. I think Randle will be an okay NBA player. He has the second highest floor out the top rookies, but the lowest ceiling. Smart could potentially end up being a better player.

If the C's end up with a pick in the 4-6 range, I would have zero problem taking Smart over Randle, although if they do pick Smart I think Bradley has to go. Hopefully a sign and trade could be done for Bradley.

I think Smart's game will transfer well into the NBA as a scoring combo guard that can ran the point at an above average level, defend either guard position very well, use his size against PGs to muscle inside for scoring or take SGs off the dribble and distribute.

I like Ennis a whole lot more as a PG though over Smart and think he might be the best pro out of the group of players chose after the third pick. Thing is, this team doesn't need a PG.

Seems to me that some players were overhyped. now that the draft is right around the corner we start to here all the negatives outweighing the positives so with all the flaws it would make sense to take a shot at the guy that most fulfills our needs......Joel Embiid!!!
we need a "big", desperately.

Which center out there do you think is potentially available on the trade market who would be worth that package?  I'd only give up that package for a perennial All-Star at the 5 spot.  Centers who fit that description don't tend to be available for trade.

It seems to me that the decent or better centers who will be potentially available on the trade market include Asik, Monroe, and maybe Larry Sanders or Nikola Vucevic, if Milwaukee or Orlando ends up drafting Embiid.  Those are all nice players that would improve our team, but I wouldn't break the bank for any of them.

What... Lol. We better be getting back one of Noah, Gasol, or Howard for that package...

Would rather us stand pat with Sully and our pick.

Yeah, I'll give them Jeff Green and Brandon Bass. Sullinger > Monroe, Sanders, Asik. Vucevic is a pretty good young center, so I would consider trading Sullinger for him.

I think Monroe is a better player than Sullinger, but Sullinger is and probably will continue to be cheaper.  I'd be interested to see how Monroe and Sullinger / Olynyk would play together, though.

Right now he is, I agree. But eventually, I think Sully will be the better player. That's why I wouldn't trade him for Monroe. If we can find a way to get Monroe without giving up Sullinger, that would be awesome. That would be an extremely weak front court defensively, though.
