Well, here's what Pau had to say about it today:

Just really light-headed, dizzy, drowsy state for five to six days at home without really moving much.  Just laying (down). Let my system kind of readjust. Because it was scary. A scary moment for me and my family and the ones that love me...It was a nightmare. I was feeling terrible. Everybody that saw me, they felt bad because I was extremely pale. I was kind of shivering. I couldn't really move. I had three liters of IV fluid. I couldn't get up. I couldn't sit. They had to take me to the hospital on a stretcher. So, the whole experience was not pleasant.

Sounds pretty legit to me, and there's a lot of stuff there that could be corroborated.

Vertigo is a great 'tank injury' since the anyone can say they have it, it can last a good while,
and it really can't be disproven.

Unless the doctors are in on the scam (and I doubt they would be), that's a lot of medical testing Gasol would have to sit through to perpetuate the ruse.  Try ingesting some MRI contrast agent just for the fun of it.

Okay I stand corrected.  I just saw him playing the game he was initially pulled from and he looked fine.  He shot 3-7 and only had 1 foul, plus he had a block and 2 assists.  Then I was talking to some Lakers fans this morning during a pick up game and they were all extremely dubious about it.  It does sound like if spent the whole night in the hospital then it's probably real, especially since I don't see Gasol staying in LA much longer so I doubt he would go to those lengths to try to get Dante Exum or whatever.

As someone who's experienced recurrent bouts of benign positional vertigo, I can assure you that it's very real, and there's no way anyone with vertigo could possibly play basketball. I could barely walk a straight line, and I had a mild case.

You can dispute whether Gasol really is suffering from vertigo, but not its effects.

As someone who also (very recently) has suffered from that (positional vertigo) I totally agree that there is no way one could play NBA basketball with vertigo.

No way for us to know if Pau's vertigo is positional or something more serious.  If it IS positional vertigo, that's usually pretty easily treatable, with simple non-invasive physical therapy.   I can't imagine he'd miss more than a few days if it was just that.

There are, of course, far more serious potential causes of vertigo, including heart issues.   'Not something to be taken lightly.

On the other hand, the Bulls medical staff.

suspend him for the rest of the season for conduct detrimental to the team... he's trying to win games.
