I'd move the #1 pick for:

LBJ/Durant/Davis. Those are non-starters though.

Some other scenarios I'd consider (also potentially non-starters):

Drummond/#8 for Bogans/#1
Wallace/Bogans/#1/#18 for Kevin Love
Bass/Bogans/#1 for Larry Sanders/#2
Bogans/#1 for Noel/#3
Wallace/#1 for Favors/#5
Wallace/#1 for Cousins

The point of all these trades are to see how much people value Embiid. I think he's going to be less amazing than most (the Olajuwon and Duncan references are just ludicrous) but I think he'll be as good as Ibaka or Deandre Jordan. If some team sees Embiid as the next once-in-a-generation player then I'd like to make some profit on that assumption.

Let me have a top-tier asset and Walace's contract gone and I'm listening to all offers. I'm not trading future Serge Ibaka or future Paul George for peanuts but I would trade them if I made $1.50 on the dollar, especially if it catapulted us in to contention sooner rather than later.

If the Celtics get the first pick and get an offer to swap with the team that has the third pick, I'm asking for 2-3 unprotected future first round picks (or young players who are as valuable as one of those picks) as compensation for moving down and I am not taking back a bad contract.

Every few years there is a transformational prospect at the top draft that a team would not deal unless the return is a transformational pro in his prime (e.g., Lebron, KD, CP3, etc.).  Looking back 35 years or so, these prospects included guys like Lebron, Tim Duncan, Greg Oden, Anthony Davis (barely), Shaq, Danny Manning (maybe), David Robinson, Patrick Ewing, Akeem Olajuwan, Ralph Sampson, and Magic.

Unless you see that guy at the top of the draft, and I do not in this one, then the question is simple.  What am I getting back?  If you like it, then you trade.

I think there may be trades out there if the Celtics end up with a pick in the 4-8 range.

A top 3 pick in this draft is a must-keep thing, though.  Just too much of a risk that the player taken with that pick ends up being a lot more valuable than whatever we'd get in return.

Drummond/#8 for Bogans/#1  --> interesting.  Drummond is a young Center prospect but not a proven player at this point.
Wallace/Bogans/#1/#18 for Kevin Love --> hell no.  no no no.  I wouldn't give the #1 straight up for Love never mind our 2 firsts and some salary relief in Bogans just to dump 2 years of Wallace.
Bass/Bogans/#1 for Larry Sanders/#2 --> Sanders is a mediocre center.  I want something better from the Bucks especially if we're giving up Bass and salary relief.
Bogans/#1 for Noel/#3 --> interesting though I'm leary of Noel's health and having missed a year in his development.
Wallace/#1 for Favors/#5 --> interesting though I'd like better numbers out of Favors by now. 
Wallace/#1 for Cousins --> interesting but I wouldn't deal away the top pick without a lottery pick coming back for anything less than Bron or Durant (or possibly Davis)

I don't see the fascination or need to trade Wallace.  sure I'd like to replace him with someone who's more productive on a better deal but he's only got 2 years left.  just 2.  after next season he's an expiring deal and a trade asset.  there's no need to include him in a trade of the top pick and lessen our return on that deal.  if he still had 4 years left, that'd be a different story but we're not contending next season no matter what happens so let's just go into the summer of 2015 looking to make improvements then with Bass off the books and Green and Wallace as expiring deals that can be used as salary filler in a deal for a top player.

Hypothetical:  Suppose Milwaukee landed at #3, decided they desperately wanted the #1 pick and offered:

a) Giannis plus next year's unprotected 1st round pick?  (We could literally send them Babb or CJ for salary balancing).

b) Sanders plus next year's unprotected pick? (We'd have to send Bogans plus some filler for salary balancing).

c) Their current #3 plus next year's unprotected 1st round pick?


Obviously, that's a complete and utterly contrived hypothetical.  I doubt seriously the Bucks would ever, ever make any of those offers.   But would you move on any of those?

I wouldn't make a trade with Milwaukee in that situation unless they were giving us the #3 and substantial additional value (i.e. Larry Sanders or an unprotected future 1st).

Still, I think I'd prefer to just roll with Wiggins or Parker, unless Danny thinks the guy available at #3 is just as good.

Oh, agreed.  I'm pretty sure I made that clear.

The question is really about finding what would be attractive to US.

We have two big needs: a good center, and an all start shooting guard to play with Rondo. I am not a fan of Embiid. We do not have a center who can really teach him to play, and he has back issues.

So the question is whether Wiggins can be an all star - at Shooting Guard. If the answer is yes, then I think there is almost nothing worth trading that number one pick for, as Wiggins would fill a need for us. ...in the end, you play basketball with the players on the Roster.

Of course, if you could net a proven commodity like Andre Drummond - you would make that move - but that isn't on the table. The draft is filled with uncertainty, so you have to assume you would take back uncertainty. The trade would have to be for the other team's pick, and their next year's pick - for us to even have a conversation about it. Why would Detroit trade Drummond for uncertainty?

This a Red Auerbach type question to me. Didn't Red trade the right to Joe Barry Carroll (the 1st of 2nd overall pick) for Robert Parish and the 3rd pick, with which he took McHale?

If I had the #1 overall pick I would absolutely consider trading down, if:
A) I was sold on the guy at #1 being heads and shoulders above picks #2, 3 and perhaps 4 or 5.

B) I could also get another solid chip out of the move.

For example, hypothetical: Philly ends up with the 3rd pick, Boston has the #1. Philly has it's heart set on Embiid, I actually prefer Park or Wiggins, one of which would be available with the 3rd pick.

To Philly: #1 pick
To Boston: Nerlens Noel and the 3rd pick

Done deal.

If Philly thinks Embiid is their Franchise guy, they do this deal.

It's Ok with me, because I also think Parker or Wiggins are "my" franchise guy...     

You can mix and match the players, but if I had the #1 overall, I might "seek" a trade if I thought the "assumed the 1,2,3 picks were over hyped...
