I still believe that Lebron isn't going anywhere this summer, but it looks like Phil Jackson will try to make a run at him.

http://prosportsdaily.com/Headlines/ExternalArticle?articleId=295643

Besides, I just don't believe that Jackson is the same type of "draw" he was during his Laker days.

Of course, then again, the NBA is a much better league when cities like New York, Los Angeles (Lakers that is) and Boston are on top instead of cities like Miami, Oklahoma City, Indiana, etc.

Can't help but wonder if that sometimes plays a role in the decision players make on where they sign.

Aka.....Lebron has had enormous success in Miami, does he now feel the need to prove himself in a bigger market? Or will he just continue to lay in the sun in Miami? Probably the latter, but fun to think about.

I would love it though if that threesome of Bron, Bosh and Wade does disband and they go their separate way. The league would be so much better because of it because you get tired of seeing Miami on top every year.

This Lebron stuff is a sideshow to the actual real plan. Kevin Love, Kevin Durant, Rajon Rondo, they're the real targets. They have zero chance of acquiring James this summer, they'd need...wow they'd need a lot. Their cap situation is just unmanageable this season, and their only hope is to not make it any worse as 2015 looms.

Their best play would be to convince Melo to resign on a more cap-friendly deal, have one more terrible year, and capitalize.

But think how tough that's gonna be. Hey Carmelo, sign with us for around 15 mil per for the next 4 years, and we'll totally not be the Knicks and screw it up. Kthanx, Phillip J Jackson

Yeah the Melo thing is a whole other story in of itself and I think he's gone from New York. I really do. Between the stuff we've heard of both Chicago and Houston being interested, I think there's definitely something there.

It also wouldn't totally shock me (not saying it will happen) that Melo ends up going to the Clippers with his buddy CP3 AND that the Knicks and ending up pulling a deal where they sign/trade Melo to the Clippers for Blake Griffin.

OR, going back to Houston, maybe the Rockets form a new super team with Harden, Melo and DH and they deal Asik and Lin's expirings as well as Parsons and draft picks to New York for Melo and a couple bad contracts like Felton's or Bargani's in another S/T deal.

This summer should be a fun offseason and I am hoping the Celtics will join in on the fun somehow.

Houston makes a lot of sense, because NY could really use Asik going forward and his bird rights make that possible, especially if they can unload Felton or Smith. The 2015 FA period could be very fruitful for them.

Edit: And this goes double if they can acquire Parsons. His cap hold during the summer of 2015 will be nothing, and if they act quickly enough, they can load up their roster with FAs, then resign him to the $10 mill per contract he'll get using Bird Rights. If ol Phil can navigate the CBA to benefit his own needs, the trade makes a ton of sense.

Knicks fans are hilarious.  Went to RealGm and some of them are celebrating like they just pulled off the biggest coup ever.

Seriously... it's like they never learn.  It's hilarious.  I've seen these kind of celebrations over and over and over and over again.

Steph Marbury...

Zach Randolph (remember the "formidable" frontline... Remember Steph's rant about "WE GOT ZACH RANDOLPH!")

Amare

Larry Brown

Mike D'Antoni...

and now Phil Jackson.

It's like... come on.  When are you going to learn that these big splashy moves are merely done to placate you.  It's done to get you to continue thinking your mediocre franchise is on the verge of title town.

Knicks fans are some of the most delusional people on the planet.  Period.  It's like... #3 - People who believe in Big Foot.  #2 - People who think they were abducted by Aliens.  #1 - Knicks fans who think their team is on the verge of a championship.

PHil Jackson has never built a team.  I agree he should do a good job recruiting... when they have cap space.  I don't get the LeBron thing.  LeBron would have to demand a sign-and-trade to the Knicks.

If Phil Jackson manages to turn the Knicks into a contender, I'll be the first to admit I was wrong about the guy... but up until this point in his career he's primarily been lucky.  Lucky to be in the right place the right time when the stars aligned and Jordan/Pippen (two of the top 50 players ever) joined forces.  Those two would have won titles with or without Phil.

Then he just hopped on the Laker bandwagon when they had Kobe/Shaq... earned some titles from them.

Then he quit... but came back once the opportunity to coach Kobe and Pau came around.    Lucky guy who takes advantage of bunny layup situations.

Fixing the KNicks is no bunny layup.  He'll actually have to do work.  He'll actually have to earn it this time...

Unless LeBron demands a trade to the Knicks.

I'd like to see him try. This whole Phil Jax storyline has been ridiculous and weird from the get-go. Just... weird.

Great to see Phil back on the sidelines again, and NY is the perfect venue for him.

I have VERY fond memories of him:

Phil Jackson, Spike Lee, and poor Mike Woodson caught in middle.

Will Melo stay or go? Phil won't be able to make any miracle moves, here.

This is going to be just like that time Joe Gibbs lured Peyton Manning to the Redskins.

Well said.... Nothing more than publicity stunt to sell tickets,  get Knicks more press, give the fans something to cheer for......dream about ..LOL......Jackson was 75 % lucky having the greatest players to coach Shaq, MJ , and Kobe.......his smartest trick was ONLY coaching where multiple superstars where on a team.   Yeah ..on the Kings or  Raptors he goes nowhere.

Just an old tired dried up snake oil salesman.  Icon of bygone era.

Basically ....with few options to improve the team......the owner ....in fear of losing fans and Melo .....threw the fans a bone by hiring Jackson as a keep the faith gesture.

LaBrd, I was just talking to Bigfoot and the Aliens who abducted me and we think the Knicks are on the verge of a dynasty.

is it even financially possible for NY to get him? I can't imagine Miami would do a trade even if LeBron wanted out.

like I said in another thread, I really don't know what more phil Jackson does for the nix franchise? granted they have had a lot of idiots in the front office so i'll give him the benefit of the doubt. but they're still the same team stuck in the same situation they've been in for as long as I can remember.

I look at the nix as - if there was ever a team that won a championship we're luck was a primary factor. it would be the nix.

So according to this article the Knicks plan seems to be re-sign Melo, then get LeBron and Durant....Who all play the same position?

Sounds great.

I think this makes sense as well. A trade of Melo for Asik, Parsons, and Lin works.  Both Lin and Asik expire after next season which give the Knicks cap room in 2015 as well as gaining Parsons without letting Melo walk and, like you say, the bird rights to signing Asik.

Amare, Chandler, and Bargs all come off the books next year. If they can get a first round pick from the Rockets in a Melo trade then they might be able to use that in a package with Felton and Smith to get them off the books as well. The go into the 2015 offseason with.

PG: Prigioni (1.7 expiring)
SG: Shumpert (4mil expiring)/Hardaway Jr (1.3mil)
SF: Parsons New Contract (9 mil a year?)
PF:
C: Asik new contract (10 mil a year?)

That would be 26 mil commited with 30+ million to go our and sign two top notch free agents.

A lineup of Rondo,Shumpert,Parson,Love,Asik would be a stellar clean slate new start for a team like NY.

The word is that Phil Jackson doesn't even want to relocate to New York, and will only visit a couple of times a month when necessary.  ::)

And he certainly won't travel around for scouting or recruiting or anything like that.

Honestly, I think Phil just pulled one over on ol' Dolan. Smooth talked him into forking over $15 million so Phil can essentially stay in retirement, and every once in a while get a free trip to New York.

What can Phil possibly do to help the Knicks? It isn't clear how good Phil is at scouting, contract management, or anything like that. There is no evidence that he has ever been particularly in tune with the ins and outs of the CBA or trade negotiations. His biggest talent has always been fitting players into his system and managing egos, which is admittedly a valuable tool, but can only take you so far (especially when you aren't the coach on the sidelines).

Word also is that he wants to hire Steve Kerr as his coach. Dump Woodson and put Kerr in, who will almost certainly implement the triangle offense in New York. Which … well, let's just say the triangle has never awed anyone when it didn't feature an MJ or Shaq. And, besides, their roster doesn't seem like it really has anyone capable of fitting into that system (Shumpert, maybe … Melo might not be terrible for it, but he doesn't strike me as the sort of player that can make the post reads and passes necessary to keep it going properly. People forget how much MJ and Kobe ran the offense through the post, and not from the perimeter).

The Knicks pretty much have to hope that they can get a good trade for Melo that clears some cap space and gives them someone like Parsons with a high upside.

I just went over to the nix board and....the fans are exactly like the nix front office. it's like they don't even acknowledge that their is a salary cap, luxury tax, have no 1st rnd picks, etc.

one poster said "it's nice to have a guy in the front office where free agents would just
walk through the door for."
