- The short answer is no. We're not making a 2014 splash.
- Johnson appears to be unguaranteed as shown on HoopsHype and as has been reported.
- I don't believe our expiring contracts are easily moved except for Bogan's contract. People had problems moving them at the past trade deadline.
- If DA wants to unload contracts, he needs to attach picks, which makes no sense for us to move guys expiring in one or two years.
- Having cap for 1 max in 2015 is much more likely as DA can re-sign (or not) AB at a reasonable number, stretch GW, and re-sign RR and still have enough for a max it appears. Problem is that there will be a lot of teams with unused cap in the summer of 2015. If total unused NBA cap exceeds talent supply, then salary inflation appears likely.
- 2016 is a cleaner scenario since JG and GW are off the books. Lots of teams will be in the same boat however.
I think most of our rebuilding will come through the draft with the Nets picks likely to be very good ones. And it will take 4-5 years. Hope I'm wrong, however, extreme caution appears to be the trend these days among NBA GMs and a fleecing via trade seems far less likely than in years past.
Yup. Don't get me wrong, I would love for Danny Ainge to have another offseason this summer like he did back in 2007.
However, I also think what happened in 2007 was freak luck.
Not to taking anything way from what DA did, but you also need to have some luck involved and I don't see that happening this time around.
Unloading Bass, Green, Wallace, etc would be great but I am beginning to wonder if anybody wants them.
Add to that the fact that unfortunately, Boston is just not a preferred destination for free agents.
I love the thought of one day seeing Love or Melo in green, but I think ultimately, it's unlikely.
So.....like you said, rebuilding the OKC way is probably the most likely scenario for us.
Sucks...but what else can we do?
It's funny because last week I debated with someone that rebuilding the way OKC did is not smart because it takes way too long.
Unforutnately, we could be going down that road
