We have around 50 Million in committed money next season and i'm concerned about our ability to put together a good team next summer. This summer could have multiple free agent prizes and it would be a shame not to atleast be able to throw our name in the hat.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/contracts/BOS.html

Here are the salaries on the book next season. Only guaranteed contracts will be counted.

Rajon Rondo $12,909,091

Gerald Wallace $10,105,855

Jeff Green $9,445,000

Brandon Bass $6,900,000

Joel Anthony $3,800,000 (unless he opts not to use his player option)

Vitor Faverani $2,090,000

Kelly O  $2,075,760

Sully $1,424,520

Chris Johnson $915,243 and i believe next year is guaranteed, Basketball reference makes it seem as such.

Ok the good news is, ALOT of the contracts are very movable.

We can easily move Bass and Joel and cut over 10 Mill! Both are expiring contracts at the end of 2014-15. Everything outside of Wallace should be a cinch to move.

So now my question is, if we move Bass, Anthony, and maybe even Vitor for expirings, would we have enough money to put together a good team if we landed a max player?

- The short answer is no. We're not making a 2014 splash.

- Johnson appears to be unguaranteed as shown on HoopsHype and as has been reported.

- I don't believe our expiring contracts are easily moved except for Bogan's contract. People had problems moving them at the past trade deadline.

- If DA wants to unload contracts, he needs to attach picks, which makes no sense for us to move guys expiring in one or two years.

- Having cap for 1 max in 2015 is much more likely as DA can re-sign (or not) AB at a reasonable number, stretch GW, and re-sign RR and still have enough for a max it appears. Problem is that there will be a lot of teams with unused cap in the summer of 2015. If total unused NBA cap exceeds talent supply, then salary inflation appears likely.

- 2016 is a cleaner scenario since JG and GW are off the books.  Lots of teams will be in the same boat however.

I think most of our rebuilding will come through the draft with the Nets picks likely to be very good ones.  And it will take 4-5 years.  Hope I'm wrong, however, extreme caution appears to be the trend these days among NBA GMs and a fleecing via trade seems far less likely than in years past.

Yup. Don't get me wrong, I would love for Danny Ainge to have another offseason this summer like he did back in 2007.

However, I also think what happened in 2007 was freak luck.

Not to taking anything way from what DA did, but you also need to have some luck involved and I don't see that happening this time around.

Unloading Bass, Green, Wallace, etc would be great but I am beginning to wonder if anybody wants them.

Add to that the fact that unfortunately, Boston is just not a preferred destination for free agents.

I love the thought of one day seeing Love or Melo in green, but I think ultimately, it's unlikely.

So.....like you said, rebuilding the OKC way is probably the most likely scenario for us.

Sucks...but what else can we do?

It's funny because last week I debated with someone that rebuilding the way OKC did is not smart because it takes way too long.

Unforutnately, we could be going down that road >:(

There was a good fanpost regarding this not too long ago.  Read it here:

We're still going to be a crappy team next year, which is fine.  Rebuild with patience.  We'll make big moves the summer after next.

His salary for the next 2 years are non-guaranteed if I'm not mistaken.
