Hello I'm fairly new to the board and I was just wondering all of your opinions on what you think of Brad as a coach.

Does he have a future in the NBA?
Is he the kind of guy you want by your side come playoff time?
Good talent evaluator/developer? (time will tell with development :))

I'm impressed so far by his coaching. He doesn't have any NBA experience, but I think he is exceeding expectations. I thought he did a very good job at raising the value on Jordan Crawford at the right time for him to get traded before Rondo's return.

He has this team playing hard and working their butt off. Not sure if I am seeing this right, but I think Bass is a better rebounder this year vs the year before and before that. Not sure if I credit Stevens or what though,  but I like what I see.

He is raw, and still learning the NBA, but I think given time, he will be a great coach.

I like Stevens. I wish his offensive sets were a little more interesting, but the jury has to stay out until he gets some more pieces to work with.

He's shown me absolutely nothing so far this season.

What about his low-key ejection skills?

He is very good coach on a super bad team

Must grant him that. His stealth level there is so high it wasn't even caught on camera. Subterfuge for the win.

He's no exactly in a great position to showcase his defensive schemes and timeout plays...Doc was a basically a .500 coach with the magic for four years until he got fired, then had 2 losing seasons with the Celtics...Did he suddenly become THAT much better of a coach, or was he given 2 first ballot HOFers in one offseason?

Of course Bass is a better rebounder because of Stevens.  Doc was too cool for rebound, remember?

How come I was expecting this from you?  Lol.  You haven't liked the guy since he got here, so I'm not surprised.  Even if he killed your cat, you shouldn't be this hard on a college coach that's taking his first ride in the nba on a really really bad team

This has nothing to do with wins and losses, it's more about the lack of tactical schemes, the lack of rhyme and reason with rotations, and the general absence of discernible team character.

Doc was a COTY with the Magic with a roster that consisted mostly of flotsam and jetsam. He got fired pretty much when the team's lack of talent caught up with them.

And while he certainly evolved as a coach during his tenure with the Celtics, I don't remember the team ever being so ... nondescript, for lack of a better word.

I didn't know the guy when he got here. Based on his credentials, I expected someone who has solid grasp of that elusive ingredient that makes a team perform better than the sum of its parts.

I wasn't expecting a good team, mind you, mostly because even getting 150% of crappy "parts" gives you, more or less, crap.

However, we're 50 games in, none of this has happened. I'm looking at a team that plays vanilla defense, and is mostly meandering aimlessly on offense until someone takes a long jump shot or a tightly contested layup.

I can't see the team playing particularly hard, I can't see players outperforming their expectations, I can't see players responding enthusiastically to what Stevens is feeding them. Not all of this is his fault, but the combination of it, to me, means there's no redeeming factor for the coach here.

He may yet improve over the rest of his contract, but to reiterate -- he's shown me nothing about what he's going to be like as an NBA coach.

first, welcome to cb. i hope you have many more good threads and posts here.

second, let me be the first to give you a tp.  :)

third, thanks for the thread. we had one early on about stevens, but given where the team is in the season, a review of stevens would certainly be in order.
