We need to pray for this to happen. There are less and less undisciplined, impulsive, win-now organizations in the league now as teams get smarter about managing their cap and not overpaying for role players. That means there are less GMs out there to take advantage of in lopsided trades.

The article goes on to speculate:
Quote
- Rajon Rondo skipped the Celtics’ game in Sacramento to stay back in Los Angeles and celebrate his 28th birthday with family and friends. He wasn’t supposed to play against the Kings, the second game in two nights, but that still tells you how Rondo is viewing this whole rebuilding phase in Boston. If Isiah Thomas gets the Pistons’ GM job, he’ll try like anything to get Rondo, a former high school teammate of Josh Smith who would be a vast improvement over Brandon Jennings.

As exciting as a potential overpay for Rondo sounds to me, the Pistons don't have a 1st rounder to trade because they still owe Charlotte their pick that will likely go in 2014 or 2015 depending on protections.

Neither do the Pistons have much of any value besides Greg Monroe since Drummond is untouchable. Still, I think a deal like Monroe (assuming as a restricted FA he's willing to come to Boston), Jennings (signed thru 2016 at 8 mil/year), a 2016 unprotected first-rounder (assuming their pick goes to Charlotte THIS offseason) and swap rights to their 2015 pick for Rondo and Wallace would at least earn my attention. I don't like Jennings but at least he'd be more tradeable than Wallace. Of course, it's possible to incorporate other teams as well if Monroe and Jennings are not to the Celtics' liking.

Actually, since it's Isiah throw in a 2018 first rounder and 2017 swap rights as well!

Is this some sort of joke? Why would any NBA team give Isiah Thomas a GM job again? That's insane.

So they would replace Dumars because he ran the team into the ground for a guy who ran the Knicks into the ground?

Good Call!

Probably the 2nd worst run organization at this point. Behind the Knicks and maybe the Cavs.

People are morons. Going from bad in Dumars to worse in Thomas. The Pistons have nothing attractive to me in a Rondo trade anyway. Drummond would be nice but only paired with Rondo. If we got Jennings in a trade I would change teams and probably jump on the Warriors wagon.

Isiah is the reason the Knicks became so bad. If the Pistons give him the reigns they may overtake the Knicks as the worst run organization. Weird stuff happens when Isiah is in charge, lots of weird stuff.

Tanking. You're doing it...wrong? Perennial mediocrity seems to be his calling card. Bad at being bad.

It does beg the question: Why.

With a period, not a question mark: Why.

Isn't Drummond doing just fine without Rondo? Drummond is one of the most untouchable players in the NBA.
