Rondo-Melo-Love would make us contenders, IMO.

I like it.

It could happen, too - after all, I didn't think that KG-Ray Ray to BOS would happen in June 2007, either.

Similar circumstances, too...Melo's being a good soldier and playing probably his best ball ever, but his team isn't doing well.

KLove? Almost the same situation....his Minny team hasn't been to the playoffs yet. He MUST be getting restless about now. And I wouldn't gift KLove to LA just yet, either....whose going to get him the ball in LA?

I bet Rondo could get KLove the ball..Melo, too.

Rondo would be like a kid in a candy store.

I agree 100% It seems like the exact blueprint of 2007 with regard to KG & Ray's situations.

Interesting stuff I'll admit. But adding lower tiered stars to a core including Rondo makes the Celtics a treadmill squad. All three are extremely overrated. Take the pick and enjoy whatever it brings. A quick fix won't work this time.

Hahaha at least you're consistently ridiculous.

Can I ask how old you are CB?

They can have Sullinger, and the rest of that Bill Simmons has said in that article for Love and it would still be worth it.

Love and Rondo is an already solid core. And then, as Simmons said, it would be easier to get another All Star or a plethora of starter tier players that wants to win.

We have the picks and the young guys, use them.

Which big 3 do you like better Pierce, KG, Ray in 2007 or Rondo, Love, and Melo in 2015?

Gotta prefer 2007 for KG's D, but Rondo/Melo/Love's still viable as a championship core.

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson

I'd love to see Melo in green next season. The one thing Rondo is missing is a legit, #1 scoring threat.

Pierce and melo are a wash.

Ray was better than Rondo.

KG was far better than K-Love.  KG was a Top 5 player...arguably THE best player of his generation had he been surrounded with the right talent early on.  He was a force on both ends.  The year before we traded for him, I think he was the 2nd most productive player in the league behind LeBron.

Let’s say the Celtics lose the 2014 lottery and end up with a pick between no. 3 and no. 5. They could send that pick to Minny along with Atlanta’s first-rounder (probably ending up in the 13-to-18 range) and their 2015 Clippers pick for Love.

Um, how is Boston getting Atlanta's pick this year?

We get the less good ATL/BKN pick because of the KG/PP trade.

So, Brooklyn is suddenly a lottery team?

No, we just get whoever has the worse (lower draft number) pick. If Brooklyn has the 16th pick and Atlanta 18th, we'd get the 18th pick.

Right. So, how in the heck is that pick going to be anywhere close to #13, as Simmons estimates? The only way that's possible is if both ATL and BRK finish in the lottery.

That pick is going to end up being closer to the 18-22 range, the way Brooklyn has played in the last few weeks.

Simmons may be making the mistakes of (a) assuming we get ATL instead of the lesser of BKN/ATL, and (b) going by order of record, which ignores the fact that all playoff teams rank worse than all lottery teams (so that right now ATL and BKN would pick after MEM and MIN despite their inferior records).

If you get those things wrong, you'd think we are getting the 13th pick as of today.

Of course, these are mistakes only the most casual follower of the Celtics would make. Heh.

Yes, in the back of my mind I've thought that if the Cs could somehow pull off something like this, it would be their best bet.

Hold on to Rondo, trade everything else for the two best players you can get. That will never be a LeBron, but a Carmelo Anthony? and a Kevin Love? Doable. Then you need a little shamrock good luck to get the right supporting cast (your Leon Powes) and a bit of luck in the playoffs, and you've got the next banner.
Celtics fan for life.

Agreed.  Adding Love and Melo at max deals will make us a very good team, but I still don't see that core winning a title. and we would be hamstrung financially.

People overlook that in 2007 we had a young quality PG locked up on a rookie deal(Rondo) and a young, servicable center locked up for less than MLE money (Perk).  It was the perfect set up for bringing in a max level wing (Ray) and PF (allen).  We are not at that place yet.

Nets getting rolled in Portland tonight:-))) This will make them 6-7 their last 13 games.  They are cooling back off!!!!

I don't know what that says about Rondo, because I think Ray Allen wasn't that great in 2008.

Let's not forget the constant "Big Two featuring Ray Allen" joke from Bill Simmons that came about  first year.

Let's not forget about Ray Allen slumping big time in the playoffs

http://seattletimes.com/html/nba/2004430770_nbanotes22.html

Quote
From the last game of the first-round series against Atlanta to the first game against Detroit, Allen is averaging nine points on 31 percent shooting. After scoring in single digits only six times during the regular season, he has done it five times in 15 playoff games, including an 0 for 4 in Game 1 against Cleveland — his first shutout since he was a rookie in 1997.

Not at I didn't appreciate Ray when he was here, but his game suffered the most from playing with other stars, and his game had also declined the most.

Current Rondo >>> 2008 Ray Allen.

And I'm not one of the guys who thinks we should keep Rondo at all costs and that if he were around all year we'd be in the playoffs. I just think he's alot better than Ray Allen was in 2008.
