Still have bass, sully and KO at PF.  Plus two draft picks who could potentially play PF.

He will command at least 6 mil a year IMO, not worth it when we are looking to clear salary for 2015.

I fully expect him to be bought out within a month.

If danny will definitely not resign him , prob better to buy him out, give our younger guys a chance for more playing time while also giving humphries a chance to get picked up by a contender.

He is a good pro

Unless we need the roster spot, he's still more useful on the team, IMO. We're already underneath the tax now, and he's getting playing time, so unless he really wants to go, I don't see why we shouldn't hang on to him. Maybe his contract is still useful for something later on, or he can showcase a bit for his next contract somewhere else.

I guess it's unlikely he stays now, since Bass didn't get traded, but the season isn't over yet.

I definitely expect him to be bought out.

No point to him being here.  He's not an asset.  He doesn't help us develop our youngs.  He doesn't help our draft positioning.  He's not part of our long-term goals.  He should be an obvious buyout candidate.

Because Hump won't want to take any less salary than he is owed for this year. A buy out needs to be agreed to by the player. I'm not sure if it makes sense for the owners to pay 95% of his salary for him to play for someone else.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I can think of one reason: Hump doesn't want to leave.

The only reason I could see that would make sense for buying him out is if it affects the team's salary cap position for next year.

I don't know the answer to this question.  Maybe someone could help out.  If he stays for the remainder of the season, will he count against our cap next year even if we don't re-sign him?  On the other hand, if we buy him out, does that then clear his cap hit for next season?

TP and thanks if anyone can answer these questions.

Between the possibility of Sullinger getting traded, and the chance to sign-and-trade Humphries there are enough reasons to keep him. He isn't going anywhere.

Although the full explanation is perhaps more long-winded, the short answer is he doesn't if you don't want him to. Waiving him doesn't change that.

If Hump is bought out, and released, his cap hold for next year immediately comes off the books.

If he stays, a cap hold of $18 mil will be on the books, until Boston renounces his rights (which I assume they will). That doesn't necessarily mean he couldn't come back as a free agent, however.

Thanks (and TPs) to Lucky and Koz,

In that case, I don't see any pressing need to buy him out.

I can think of one reason: Hump doesn't want to leave.

On both these points, isn't it conceivable that Hump would take a buyout because:

(a) he'd get to play out the season with more minutes, or on a contender, or both?
(b) his next contract could be significantly better if he is a valuable contributor to a team's deep playoff run - so even with the buyout, he could benefit financially?

I cant think of many reasons he would get bought out.

Im sure he wants to be paid in full

Theres probably not a huge market for him.

No gurantee that he would get any minutes playing for a contender.

Id think his stock could rise playing with the Celtics as oppoaed to 10 min on a contending team.

Hes still pretty young, not old veteran on last legs

We could use him as sign and trade possibility

Even when he was a DNP every game at staft of season i dont think he complained omce.

Im sure there are other reasons as well. This is just off top of my head
