  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
This is why I love Danny although I don't think he always makes the right decisions. He understands what it takes to win in this league. He's clearly looking to have another 2007 type off season if he doesn't hit in the draft.

Saying we need great players is pretty much stating the obvious.

If he pulls off a major team improvement this summer I'd be surprised.  I would think that with the picks and contract situations that 2015 would be the better timeframe but kudos to Danny if he really makes the team significantly better before next season

To Ainge's credit, he has far more assets than the collection of flotsam he had in the summer of 2007.

None of that is a guarantee that anyone will be fire-selling as they did seven years ago.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

I thought it was interesting that Danny ainge put a lot of emphasis on his desire to drastically shape the team either this summer, or next.

It makes sense, with a good chance at some nice draft positions in 2014 and 2015, combined with the expiring of a few salaries.

All this reveals is that i dont think ainge is interested in adding garbage salaries for the sake of picking up first round picks. He has the picks already. I think he really wants to take a big crack at the free agents in 2015. He has never had enough open salary cap room to offer anything beyond a MLE.

The existence of Joel Anthony on the roster suggests otherwise.

Joel Anthony doesn't interfere with the summer of 2015 salary cap. He will expire by then.

With or without Anthony, the celtics don't have enough cap space to do much this summer anyway.

Maybe more assets in quantity, but does the roster have more value trade wise? I'm not convinced it does.

Our pick may have the same value or more, but I don't agree with Sullinger equaling Jefferson in terms of trade value. Sully doesn't possess the potential to be a true threat in the post the way Al did.

Those Nets picks look promising, but they're a ways off and we've seen the value of future picks plummet in value recently. That Bobcats pick the Bulls have is going to wind up being 15-16, or roll over another year to a less promising draft. Other teams must realize this also.

GMs seem to be treating draft picks like gold. In 2007 you could probably buy a first rounder with cash if you wanted to. Aside from anything else it's pretty clear the future draft picks have a lot of value.

If a max contract player is available, the Celtics can offer a combination of expiring contracts (Bass, Joel Anthony after he exercises his option, Faverani if you consider he is unguaranteed after next season) and unguaranteed contracts (Bogans, Pressey, Chris Johnson) that can be packaged with picks.  That can be a trade, a sign-and-trade, or a salary dump of players to another team to clear cap space to sign someone.

Well, what those Nets picks are worth this summer is probably a question no one here can really answer. Looking for a benchmark, the Pelicans had to give up an immediate pick and the next season's pick( coming from a team that looked 50/50 at best to make the playoffs) to get Holliday.

Those Nets picks are 2,3,and 4 years away. I've got faith they'll materialize into opportunities eventually. I just believe it'll take more patience than using them this summer to really cash in.

Danny stating that he was active at the trade deadline but with no deals made , tells me guys like green, bass, hump, ab, rondo were prob in discussion

At draft day i expect him to make at least one or two moves. Like trading our 7th and jeff green for the 4th pick. Trading the 20th and bass for the 18th.

Cant really see the team attracting any quality FA in the off season. It will have to be via draft or trade.

We really need a starting rim protector and a scoring machine to get competitive again

2007 Plan A = Oden or Durant
2007 Plan B = What you ended up seeing...small window contender

2014 Plan A = Embiid, Wiggins, Parker, Exum, Randle??, Vonleh??  No telling how deep Ainge sees it.

2014 Plan B = We'll see what happens.

Anybody see danny trading or not resigning AB and try to steal Hayward away from the jazz in the off season?
