Why would you need any player without a future on your team if you're 'not going anywhere anyway'? they'd be better off testing d-leaguers should injury happen if they're not attempting to be truly competitive now.
And presumbly if they're willing to buy out Davis the day of the trade deadline, they'd already discovered there's zero market for him via trade.
