tank-tastic this year, but they could be really good next season.

Sixers give:

Evan Turner
Spencer Hawes
Lavoy Allen
Conditional 2nd

Sixers get:

2nd round pick (Magic)
2nd round pick (Wizards)
2nd round pick (Nuggets)
2nd round pick (Clippers)
2nd round pick (Pacers)
Danny Granger
Earl Clark
Eric Maynor
Henry Sims
Byron Mullens

2nd rnd picks are worthless.

Tell that to Tell that to
Willis Reed
Dennis Rodman
Manu GINOOOBLIII
Gilbert Arenas
Carlos Boozer
Marc Gasol
Monta Ellis
Paul Milsap
Varejao

Regardless even if they don't draft with them, they can still be used as a sweetener for any trade.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Thaddeus Young didn't move either which is surprising.

I like to see the C's pay cash for their second rounders when they can--it's so much cleaner.

This comment is worthless.

There's tons of good players that came out from the 2nd round.

Plus 2nd round picks are excellent for trades.

They still got Nerlens Noel who I think is gonna be really good in this league.

2nd rnd picks are worthless.

not in this years draft.  You get to draft near 1st round talents like Cory Jefferson, Lebryan Nash, KJ Mcdaniel, Napier

one is bound to be a steal

I love that Philly didn't get the value they wanted for these players after crying about first round picks for the whole season.

Sure there is some value in second rounders, but they didn't make out like bandits that's for sure. Heck, we bought a pick for Iverson last year.

2nd rnd picks are worthless.

I think Zach Lowe made this point today.  An early 2nd round pick is almost better than a late first round pick because of the fact that there is no guaranteed money tied to them.  Excellent trade chips and if you are good drafter you can get some decent assets.  Danny alone has gotten Big Baby, Ryan Gomes, and Leon Powe with 2nd round picks.  Far from worthless.

2nd rnd picks are worthless.

If the goal is to buy low, 2nd round picks are often among the most undervalued assets out there.

2nd rounders are nice and all, but they gave up 3 young kids who can play for 5 second round picks who they may end up using or not... their goal was nuking the roster. Sad to watch.

They made out like tank commanders, and Hinkie is starting to look like Morey: erratic trades, lots of cap space... maybe they use their cap space to get some real assets, but the Pacers deal is a huge steal for Larry Legend.

Two of those three young kids had no chance of resigning with them next season.

2nd rnd picks are worthless.

Odds are 1 of those 5 second rounders will turn into a role player. Meanwhile they gave up hawes and turner, a couple nice role players.

Philly is probably going to be terrible for a few years. You can't win with a bunch of 19-21 year olds in the NBA.

Yeah, by the same logic first picks overall are worthless, because I can come up with 10 busts.

What makes second rounders worthless is that: (a) more often than not, they can be had for next to nothing on draft day, and (b) the chance you'll nab someone similar to the players listed above is, in fact, pretty low.

They got marginally better which is good for us, right?  If they make the playoffs next year we get their pick.  Granger is by far the best player of the bunch.  Turner is a bricklayer.
