Where do the endorsements come from in Boston? Dunks? New York has garbage weather but the endorsement money is too much to compete with. Miami has too nice of weather and same goes for LA which is a combo of the two. Boston isn't on that tier and will have to overpay players to come here unless they are acquired via trade or are drafted and fall in love with the culture. No way in hell other than that.

is david west a big name?

He's like Paul Millsap in that he is an underrated player who is better than some of those big-name superstars who can command max salaries.

If the best example you can come up with is David West, who "chose" Indiana over Boston, then you've already lost the argument as far as I'm concerned.

also, we've never had the chance to sign a big name free agent. because of our cap situation.

the gaston era screwed us. then somewhere along the lines we signed vin baker to like a 20 yr contract. before all that free agents weren't what they are today.

so yeah we've never had a chance at signing a big name free agent.

see this is why the NBA sucks right here. they cater to their stars way too much. they let the players run the league and it's just bad for business.

there's no other sport where this is an issue.

The celtics cant compete with the top tier of 5 teams. True enough. But with current management in place, i bet they are in the next tier of teams, say 6-10. Head to head, i would expect them to attract players better than Chicago, portland, Detroit, golden state, etc.

There are 5 players on the field at any given time and a total of 15 on the roster. The NBA caters to stars because, well, stars are more important than in any other major sports.

I love that David West is the example.

Did he choose Indianapolis over Boston for the the endorsement opportunities, the big stage, the weather or the night life?

I don't think so.  He chose it because he liked the direction the team was headed.

What Danny needs to do if he wants to lure free agents is to make sure he's got our team headed in the right direction.  If he can do that, players will want to play here.
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

letting the stars choose where they get to go if they're not a free agent is ridiculous. of course everyone is going to want to go to LA, Miami etc.

look at Minn. they're a revolving door. they're a freaking farm team for the rest of the league.

No good free agent is coming here unless we have good players here already. Rondo is a good start, and right now I think Rondo is where Pierce once was. If we have the pieces in place and the right situation to make a big splash Ainge will do it. If not Rondo will be the big fish for another team. Either way there is plenty of options for Ainge to choose in rebuilding this team, either short term, or a longer term.
