I'd guess that 90% of the time when you hear a "____ wouldn't sign with ____ if traded there" it's being leaked by the agent.
That said, this whole business with Rondo "turning down" trades to certain cities is starting to remind me of what's happened in recent years with Melo and Dwight. I really hope we don't go down that road even a little bit.
Honestly, that may factor into Danny's consideration about possibly trading Rondo sooner, similar to how Utah traded Deron Williams really early in the process.
Or, he may realize he will hold more long term value by keeping and resigning Rondo than he'll get in trade.
It's a little early to start comparing Rondo's situation and behavior to that of D-Will's or Howard's.
Yeah, I'm not suggesting that Rondo is going to be like them. It is early to start thinking that way. But I really don't want anything resembling like that circus to go on here.
As for Danny's decision, you're right that it could go the other way too. There isn't a ton of urgency to make a deal now, but I don't believe that Rondo is certain to re-sign in Boston no matter what.
My belief (and that's all it is, no evidence for it really) is that Rondo will stick around here if the team is in a position to be competitive within a year or so, or is at least on track. If not, I think he's gone. But a trade even in that case probably won't happen until a year from now.
