According to Hoopshype the Warriors could look to move Barnes. They are looking to improve the strength of their bench and the only untouchable on their team is Curry. Do you think the Celtics should try to make a deal with the Warriors for Barnes, and what would it take to get him?

I'd say it would take a lot

I think something like this may work

Bass, 2014 Brooklyn 1st for Ezeli and trade exception

Bradley for Barnes

I think this is something that Golden State and Boston would consider.  Golden State picks up 2 solid rotation players and a 1st in this draft (something they don't have) for Barnes and a guy who is injured and hasn't played all year.  I might even do the trade without Ezeli but I would push for him hard if I was Boston as I think he could be at least a solid rotation center at some point down the line.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Can a trade exception be combined like that?

And I really like Barnes, if there's a decent way to get him.

No a TE can not be combined with other salaries.

But you can structure it as 2 or even 3 separate deals from the Celtics perspective. Its weird stuff.

I don't think they'd move Barnes for any package the C's have to offer though. Not unless they really like the thought of having two Greens at the forward spots.

Barnes is a really nice player. As long as we don't give up Green, Rondo or SUllingr to get him I'll be happy.

GSW puts themselves into the luxury tax by doing a whacky trade exception deal for a salary the size of Bass', which likely rules that out.

Yeah it is basically Boston trading Bass to Golden State who absorbs his salary with the trade exception.  Golden State then trades Ezeli for a 1st who Boston absorbs with a trade exception.  Then in a separate trade Barnes for Bradley.  I did actually check Barnes and Ezeli can be traded for Bradley so it could just be two trades.  Bass to GS for the trade exception and then Bradley and 1st for Barnes and Ezeli.

Does anyone have insight into why Golden State is interested in Bass? Isn't he redundant with Mareese Speights as a backup 4? He's better than Speights, but my impression was that Speights is solid. They've got Draymond Green in there, too. Those are two solid, cheep backup 4s. Do they miss Carl Landry so much that they need to re-create him?

Also, Harrison Barnes is potentially a better player at teh 4 than either of them.

Barnes and Speights for Bass.

The salaries match almost exactly.  It doesn't save much money next year (a couple hundred thousand), but if you'd rather have Barnes than Bass going forward, I think it's a deal Golden State would do that doesn't cost any draft picks.  I guess how willing the Celtics would be to do this deal depends whether they think Barnes can be a building block or not.  He's been mediocre so far, which is why GSW would move him, but maybe a change of scenery would help.

The downside of top 10 picks is when they don't perform, their salaries become burdens.

Speights has been a giant disappointment this far for them.  They want/need to upgrade from him.

I was going to ask if people would give up Green to get Barnes?

I wouldn't but he would be younger cheaper option and I bet Green would be a better more productive threat for the Warriors. I still would not trade Green for him though. Bass yes.
