Out of Jeff and Avery, who do you hope we keep?

Jeff
Avery
I think we can function with both
Neither, get as much for them in a trade as possible

With Jeff Green already owed more than $16m over the next 2 years and Avery Bradley being due for a new contract, it seems less and less reasonable that Danny will commit significant money to a wing combination that has been so underwhelming. An ungrade at one (or both) spots is starting to look like a requirement moving forward.

Assuming we keep Sullinger and Rondo (try to stay in topic folks, let's not have this dissolve into a Rondo trade/value/superstar debate), which wing player do you hope Danny keeps and why?

Personally, I'm inclined to keep Jeff. I've given up hope that he'll ever become a consistent producer but his length and athleticism at 3 could become very important and more valuable than an undersized&inefficient 2 guard moving forward.

Jeff. That's a no brainer for me, but I feel like I might be in the minority.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
neither- they're not championship material.
Bradley is really good at defense, Jeff is okay at everything.
Pick your poison.
Don't see either of them being a part of our future unless Avery signs with us at around 5.5 million.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I love Avery. But if I had to pick, I'd keep Jeff. He can defend more types of guys than Avery and has more ways to score.
I moved the cheese.

It's a good question and one Ainge is likely pondering as well.

Bradley certainly has the youth advantage but I'm inclined to pick Green.

Green is more versatile and has a higher offensive ceiling from game to game.
*CB Miami Heat*
Kyle Lowry, Dwayne Wade, 13th pick in even numbered rounds, 18th pick in odd numbered rounds.

I don't think you will be - or should be. I've gone back & forth on Jeff, I'm finally just letting go of what he's not. He's not going to be a star or a guy who will come out and give 18 or more every night. But he can be a solid starter. Over the last few games, it seems like Brad & Co. are making a concerted effort to get Jeff moving more off the ball (there was a sequence against Dallas that stands it where he ran off a few screens and had a great alley oop opportunity) I think if they can build on that, it'd make up for his inability to consistently create his own shot.

Either one is good enough to be a starter on a championship team, just not one of the best players.

I don't think there's any reason to make this decision. The deciding factor should be whether you can get a top level SG or a top level SF.

personally I'd keep a healthy Bradley

yes Bradley is undersized but I want someone who can lock down opponents and disrupt the other team's offense. For elite teams with good point guards, I want Bradley to either shut them down, or delay their offense.

I find that more important than having Green scoring 18 ppg as a 3rd or 4th guy, or being able to defend 3 positions.

Yeah I agree that Green is a perfectly solid starter. Behind Rondo and _____________ fill in the blank of who we eventually acquire to be that top talent he is a perfect third guy. He is on a decent contract and he can defend the other teams best scorer. I think his value to the team is severely underrated when he is the main guy guarding the Lebrons, Durants and Georges of the league and doing a fair job at least containing them or bodying them up with his athleticism. Not an easy task.

If it wasn't for Avery's upcoming free agency, I'd agree. But as I said before, I don't think Danny will want to commit a lot of money to Avery with Jeff still being owed over $16m. If his goal is really the 2015 offseason, having Avery and Jeff making starter's money doesn't seem smart. You can wait see what happens this off-season with the draft, but you risk Avery getting a big contract offer inrestricted free agency. Whether or not you match the offer or try to work a sign & trade, you're limiting your options.

Both are expendable as far as I'm concerned.

If we can get Avery at a team friendly contract, then it's Bradley.

Avery has all nba man on defense BUT this year it has been not that level.  :-\
Jeff Green has my vote.  Quality defense, good team player, Avery's jacking this year instead of working for best shot has soured me a bit.  Add in I think he is better suited to be 1st guard off the bench sort to disrupt with his defense.  I'd welcome bradley back but the $ he and his agent are looking for would have me packaging him and bass for a center.
rondo
all star ish caliber shooting guard with range
green
sully
true center good defender rebounder

draft picks....

that is a good quality team

Avery, if he can be signed to a mid-level sized deal. Guy can do two important things:

1) take the toughest defensive backcourt assignment in a playoff game (off of Rondo);

2) change / own a playoff game or two with that defense.

Basically, he has a more unique skillset as a role player, which I believe both of them are.

If I had to keep one, I'd keep Jeffy in the hopes of landing a prime Center and/or prime SG to carry the offensive load.  Jeff seems to be more productive when he's not the offensive focus.

As for AB's ability to impact an opposing offense, that took a major hit IMO in that Knick series last year when Felton torched him over and over again.  AB hasn't looked as effective on D since then.

If I could replace both of them in the starting lineup with better players and bring them off the bench, I'd be all for keeping them but we'd have to get some beneficial bounces in the next 2 lotteries.

exactly what I was thinking - tough hard core defense win championships. If we can get a go-to-scorer, Bradley is a no brainer. We can score while stop the other team from scoring
