Venting as a byproduct of our first really bad/non-competitive season in nearly ten years?

So you think Rondo discussing his free agency  which is over a season away and desire to be courted by teams is him owning the team and being a captain? Wow, shows a lot about what you think a good captain is.

2012, Celtics Captain, Paul Pierce: “I think I am going to play this one out. I want to see what it feels like to be a free agent for once in my life. I think I am going to play this one out. A lot can change in two years. My body [may not] be where I want it to be, I could retire, a lot of things could happen. I love the game. I made as much money as I possibly can. It’s about winning a championship and if I feel like it’s the right thing to do, maybe so [come back]. If I solidify my third year, maybe they opt out, so it’s about keeping your options open.”

Paul Pierce, Former Celtics Captain, 2014: For Pierce, who spent 15 years clothed in Celtics garb, it was especially difficult.

"I loved it here," he said before the game, per ESPN Boston's Jackie MacMullan. "Never wanted to leave."

After all the sarcasm in this post.... not just you, but SO many people here do what journalist's do best, sneak around the facts...

“It’s kind of like, I would say, maybe college recruiting. I’m pretty sure a lot more goes into it in the NBA. A lot more money is spent. I’ve heard stories, guys getting called right at midnight. It’s something that I haven’t experienced. I may want to go through it. I haven’t thought about it at all.
Every year there are 6-7 teams with a lower winning percentage than our current record. I think we've gotten so used to ignoring the bottom feeders since 2008 that we've forgotten how bad some teams are.

I guess man.  It's embarrassing to even read some of these posts for me.

the team still needs to compete to maintain the culture that was established from the era before. if they purposely lose games and not compete by sitting good, healthy players then we will all be losers even if you get a very good draft pick it would be hard to find and establish an identity.

At least now we still have guys that still want to win. we don't need to rank in the top 3 to get a good player. we are not beating the bucks and  magic and sixers for the top 3 in the tank rank. They are that bad. besides, when the bulls got the top pick that turned into Derick Rose they ranked 9th with 1.7% chance of landing the top pick. Even if we rank in the 7th-10th, there's still a chance to land that top 3 pick.

If we don't get in the top 3 (I think top 5 will do in this draft class), we can trade up by trading the other picks we have or trade it for an established player that wants to play alongside Rondo and the established culture we have here.

I am a pro tanker, but yes I do enjoy the team fighting and sometimes winning. Even if you want to play for the ping pong balls you have to play and develop players, develop chemistry.

Why did rondo come back? Of course, he has to get in game shape and shake off rust. undergoing through a serious injury like that doesnt only affect you physically.. it also affects you emotionally and mentally. TA took more than a year to fully recover from the injury. During the 08 season you could tell he wasnt trusting his knee yet, and that is one reason he received little play in the playoffs that year.

Because he is healthy and this is the final step of rehab
So he can start next season in a playing groove
To get accustomed to his teammates
So mgt can see what the players can do with a real point guard.  To see who should be traded if that player isn't going to mesh with next years team/philosophy.
So free agents can see rondo will be ready for next season and he will make them better

Everything this year, Stevens learning pro game down, is for next season and on.
Rondo is playing for next season

I never believed for one second that we'd get a top 4 pick. So I have no problem with him coming back and doing the job he's paid to do. The job he's worked most of his life doing.

This is hurting the team long term. Rondo is selfish and wants to be a diva and show that he hasn't lost anything and can be the man. He doesn't see that this is bad for the Celtics long term that is why Ainge needs to move him. Let a contender have Rondo. Take on Rondo and Wallace, give the C's another first in 2014 and the problem is solved.

Whining about winning games, and recently Rondo's road back from injury, is my least favorite aspect of being a team in transition. It happened in the down years before the big 3, it's in full force this season.

Being ok with losing is one thing. Rooting for it in close spots with one eye on the draft, sure. But I can't get behind feeling frustrated that this team has a little heart, a competitive spirit, and our player makeup isn't quite so dysfunctional that we aren't the punching bag of the league. One of the best point guards in the NBA is back playing games and coming into form, enjoy it.

But he isn't one of the best. He's extremely overrated. That being said he's the best player on the Celtics roster and because he played with "The Big 3" he hasn't lost that luster around the league yet. What's the difference between Rondo and say someone like Mario Chalmers? He's probably top 10 at his position but Celticsblog has overrated him as this superstar game changer.

It's almost like Ainge started doing the right thing and blowing the team up then got cold feet with the rest of the roster. That's unacceptable if you are the GM. You need to do what's going to benefit your team long term. In this scenario it's tanking. Rondo must go! Green must go!

Yes, all the guys who want to see the team flounder indefinitely will be thrilled. Danny should make it a team policy that any player that's a diva who's selfish enough to hurt the team by playing well is on the next bus out of town. That policy should remain in effect until we've gone at least as long without a title as the Clippers or the Kings. We should have acquired plenty of assets by then.
