has the softest touch its un teachable , the rim loves him-he is learning and adjusting at such a rapid pace offensively and has had so much to adapt to this rookie year offensively just surviving on defence a plus, he is a smart player with an off season of lateral movement and defensive drills while strengthening his lower body ,he is just learning some of the  techniques and tricks of playing nba defence, next year with refs now familiar with him, defence could wind up the most visibly improved part of his game--

Olynyk when playing and shooting well reminds me of Bird.  Very savvy, efficient, team oriented.  Bird obviously much better, in part because he had that killer instinct.  Kelly seems to underestimate his scoring ability.  I'd like him to be more aggressive with his shot. I have not seen him play the last several games, looks like his confidence is getting better.
I like olly more than many folks here. Yet I will have to disagree with the comparison of olly to Larry, shooting or passing - though both do both they are different as I see them.  If I HAD to make a comparison to a celtics player of that era, I would say olly's inside moves sometimes remind me of McHale.....sometimes.

Olly appears to be his own style of player in many ways. Fine.

So far, his playing indicates to me that he is, and will be, an above average NBA player. A good, solid pick by ainge.

Maybe we should bump this thread at the end of the season and compare to play/stats of the last draft, all picks.

I agree, though I think at 30 minutes-plus next year and his growing comfort on offense I think that's what people we see most. His under-the-radar improvement on defense will significant, however, too.

I missed most of the game today. I see Olynyk stats again looked good. 7-10 shooting is efficient.

But overall how did he do?

Did he mix it up inside/outside on offense? How did he fare defensively?

He mixed it up offensively.  One thing he did is he ran the floor extremely well and finished nicely.  Defensively, it was a mixed bag.  He had some troubles keeping Drummond off the glass, and keeping Monroe in front of him, but so did everybody else.  That's to be expected.

Olynyk has "got it" . Well at least on the offensive end.  No hesitation and rarely turns over the ball. He has scored more than 10 points the last 6 out of 10 games and recently 3 in a row.

I like it how his offense is not all about shooting the ball now and is driving in and finishing around the basket more (with 50 + percent success). Will only get better with experience and adding strength

Defensively he has been playing better, and avoiding foul calls (except tonight).

The team just works better with him out there.  What are the chances by the end of the year he is a finalist for the ROY award?

Somewhere between zero and zero.

Olynyk has been something else these past 4 games.

It seems that he and Sullinger should be starting.  The rise of those 2 players makes a win streak inevitable.  I think we can actually make the playoffs this year if we keep this up.

Oly's recent play (past 4 games) has been insane if you project it out to 36 minutes.

There are the numbers (minus the detroit game). Do the math.

Pretty accurate...like a 7 foot Sue Bird.   She was a better passer, though.  Kelly has nicer hair.

Quote
In his last three games, he has averaged 17.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game which are both significantly better than his season averages of 7.4 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.

As you delve into his most recent stats, it's clear that the biggest change has been an increased opportunity to play.

Olynyk has averaged 18.7 minutes per game this season, although he has seen his playing time increase to 24.2 in Boston's last three games.

In those three games, he has shot 56.3 percent compared to just 41.8 on the season.

Once a reluctant three-point shooter, Olynyk has nailed 55.6 percent of his threes in the last three games, nearly doubling his 28.8 percent shooting numbers for the rest of the season.

Great stats the last several games.

Past 4 games:  17.7 points, 6.5 rebounds, 22.5 minutes...

Per-36:  28.3 points, 10.4 rebounds... but he's shooting like 60%/60%/90% over the past 4.

He's been ridiculous.  Here's hoping it's a long-term thing and not just a streak.
