Mike Brown is a terrible coach, but that's a joke of an article.

I agree Mike Brown is a joke who owes his coaching pedigree largely to LeBron playing under him.

Franchises that are bad for years on end are that way for a reason.  LeBron's exit has really crippled that franchise for years.  It takes some true incompetence to stay bad despite having all of the high draft picks that team has had in a row.

Lebron was a brat and was totally immature when he was there as well and it was tolerated.  So I hope you're not insinuating that Lebron left because of how bad the management was.

I really feel bad for Deng.  He's not staying for sure

I think there was something of that to it, but I'm suggesting that Lebron's departure really crippled that team long term because they had so much riding on him, both in terms of actual roster moves and emotionally.

Had a long post that got eaten.

Cleveland's front office has never had a rep for being very good. The lack of quality support around LeBron definitely played a huge role into why he left.

However, I think that Cleveland's biggest problem is that Dan Gilbert is too much of a fan to have such a singular voice with what happens in that front office, and it has a trickle down effect onto the team.

So: I think that Cleveland never developed a plan B for LeBron's free agency because of that fan nature--I sincerely believe that no one in their front office was allowed to serious entertain the idea of him leaving, because THERE'S NO WAY HE COULD DO THAT AND LOOK AT HIMSELF IN THE MIRROR, or whatever National post-Decision soapboxing from the press corps you care to dredge up.

Then he left.

i'd say the franchise has been giving its young stars way too much leeway, but that that kind of behavior was in place during the lebron years, too.

as much as I wasn't really a fan of doc rivers I respect him a whole bunch for not letting us turn into a team like this.

rookies under doc rarely got mins "just because", and if they did they earned them.

Yeah. I remember Doc sitting Pierce once early on, too.

Yep, I was reading Shaq's book and he talked a lot about the organizations. He said Lebron ran the Cavs and pretty much no accountability for him in film sessions and practices...Mike Brown wouldn't criticize him at all.

He said the C's organization was totally different and Doc let him know from jump that this isn't a hollywood franchise with entourages, etc and told him he's not going to mess up the chemistry in his locker room.

I can't believe how much of a mess Cleveland is. Bad drafting combined with an unprofessional day to day atmosphere is how you remain a horrible organization.

Win, lose, or draw, i am so glad to be a Celtic fan.

Yeah.  I've watched a lot of Cleveland this year, and it's more painful than watching the Celtics.

Take a roster headlined by a potential superstar.  Surround that superstar with young, mediocre talent that all want to make a name for themselves (despite lacking the talent to do so).  Don't put a single vocal veteran in the locker room.

Solidify that by hiring a coach who has a reputation of enabling superstars, and who doesn't know how to develop young talent.  This coach has one of the least sensible offensive "systems" in the league, and his message is so inconsistent (and the roster so mismatched) that nobody buys in on defense.  Top that off with one of the largest coaching staffs in the league, that has assistant coaches contradicting one another and the head coach.

The Deng move was a really good one.  Chris Grant is really good at getting good value in trades.  He sucks, however, at putting together a roster and hiring a coach that can make sense of that roster.

Seriously. Why don't they hire George Karl?

George Karl would be a great fit in terms of trying to motivate everyone for a playoff push.  I guess his reputation is that he eventually burns his guys out, but that's only after inspiring them.

I think Lionel Hollins would be a pretty good fit, too.  He's the type of guy who would tell management to pound sand, and that's exactly what that franchise needs right now.

Seriously. Why don't they hire George Karl?

George Karl has expressed interest in coaching a team that wants to win. Not a team that is close to bottoming out, despite the fact they have a decent roster.

I don't understand how teams keep hiring him. It really makes no sense.
