  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Says Ainge taught him how to be 'unafraid' as a GM.
Says Ainge is 'of course, now trying to shake me down for a bunch of different things'.

I think it's fair to say it's possible Danny wants one of those Suns picks. I wonder what he wants to give up? I can't see Green going there, they've got Morris and his bro who are very similar to Green's production. They've got Dragic and Bledsoe so I can't see them wanting Avery...

Ryan McDonough worked several roles in Boston’s front office over the past decade. He is a modern general manager, one who merges statistical analysis and scouting to make decisions. He started in Boston as an assistant to the video coordinator and scrapped his way up to become Ainge’s right-hand man.
“It was a pretty easy sell to everybody here and to the fans to shake it up, that some changes needed to be made,” McDonough said. “But that’s the thing I learned from Danny [Ainge], to be unafraid. Of course, now he’s trying to shake me down for a bunch of different things, but that’s who he is; he’s a competitive guy.”

Just as possible he's rousing Ainge being humorous, but he seems to like the spotlight as a GM and gives up a fair bit in his interviews. Problem is it's hard to know if these guys are just sending smoke clouds every time they open their mouths.

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Suns have plenty of assets that make them a very intriguing trade partner for Boston.  Expiring contracts and draft picks... it's a dream trade partner.

I'm sure names like Jeff Green, Avery Bradley, Brandon Bass, Gerald Wallace and Rajon Rondo have come up in many back-and-forth.

Ainge has to ask for the moon.  That's his job.  Doesn't mean Suns will bite.

Ryan's dad was a big talker--who could generally back it up--as well.

This makes me less hopeful that we'll swing a deal with PHO.

I think that if there were anything serious going on between these two, we wouldn't be hearing a peep from either one about it, even in jest.

If Ainge can land anyone of their first round picks for a Hump, Bradley, Bass, Wallace, or Green type package (or alone)....that's a major coup for Danny & the C's.

I never had a lot of hope on that front.  The Suns GM knows our players nearly as well as Ainge himself knows them, so why would he take on our crap for any kind of value?  He knows only too well how little value there is there.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

I don't think such a trade need involve taking our crap, or our trying to fleece them. They want to make a run this year and we don't - so there are some trades of the win-win sort possible.

How do you know he values it as 'crap' ?

Every person is different, every opinion is different.

There is a deal out there like the Lee/Bayless trade.  Both teams can benefit.  There doesn't have to be one winner.

Hump is someone that the Suns could definitely use, if they want to be more competitive this year.

Len/Plumlee/Kratsov can definitely use help on the boards. You know that Channing Frye is not helping big on that front.

Given Humps skill set and his expiring, I think that he is the most valuable piece that we have not named Rondo/Sully/picks.

Hump and Bogans for Okafor and picks/Goodwin would work for me.

Given that McDonough is in his first year with the Suns, it could look very bad if he made a trade with his former boss, unless is a clear win-win. Can't see it happen this season.

But if McDonough is making a trade, I could see Ainge as a facilitator, that would always look better, and Phoenix owners would look at McDonough's Boston connection as an advantage for their organization.

TP. You explained it better.
