Id be interested in the summer. I want that top five pick. So continue to be bad this year but next year I look for Ainge to make big moves.
I expect two additions outside of the pick to be players with josh smith type talent. The pierce TE and the bogans contract can be used to add two very good players. Add a couple guys on a josh smith type level to rondo, sully, a top pick and maybe still Bradley, green, and some of our current role players and we could be very very good in a bad eastern conference.
I've been thinking Gerald Wallace for J-Smoove after seeing the "rumor" (it's Chris Broussard who "leaked" this).
I ended up finding a
trade idea, basically:
Josh Smith to BOS
Gerald Wallace to DET
Jeff Green to 3rd team
Maybe a couple of picks from us.
This allows them to re-sign Monroe.
I know Josh Smith isn't great but he's no chopped liver. At worst you turn Gerald Wallace, whose only value to us is in several years when he becomes an expiring, into something that's not completely negative in trade value.
I have never been a fan of "dumping" Gerald Wallace but I think this is how you should do it.
I'm not a tanker but I also agree. This deal would be done in the off-season, if ever. Knocks one year off both J-Smoove and Gerald Wallace's contracts, making them look more appealing. I also don't deny the value of a top pick (though J-Smoove might actually help our tanking "cause", who knows). Being a rebuilding season, I'm a proponent of not intervening and allowing the team to do its thing (giving Brad Stevens and our young players some valuable experience).
Don't take this the wrong way, though. There's about about a 1 in 25 chance J-Smoove becomes instrumental to a championship, or even a somewhat desirable player. Heck, even though there's an opportunity to dump Gerald Wallace here, we're giving up 2 picks. So I'm ambivalent, despite being intrigued.
