Rondo looks AWFUL right now. We'd be really selling low. Bad idea.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
It will be low ball offers for a while until he answers/proves against the two major question marks...

1)Will his athleticism be the same? Remember what happened to KG after his knee went? Rondo's injury has a better success rate overall but it's still a huge 'what if' for a point guard.

2)Is he an All Star level/ top 25 NBA player without KG and Pierce to help steer the ship?
We've never seen him without being surrounded by very good to elite level jumpshooters.
These team mates also attracted attention from defenses and forced opposing defenses to spread the floor and not over help.
Now there's not really anyone else to worry about other than Sully and perhaps Green- but they're not as good as KG, Pierce, Ray etc... How will Rondo cope being the major target of defenses without his sidekicks?

The second point is less important because whoever takes him will surround him with shooters anyway- but it's important because it lowers his market value when his assists go from 13 a game to 8 or 9 without these guys around.

Doesn't look like his own jumpshot has gotten better at this stage, but again, it's super early and he'll need at least 2-3 more months. His knee would be affecting his jumpshot too, so until it's 90% I don't think we'll see any real 'equal or better value' kind of offers- just lowballers.

Joe Dumars does have a habit of making stupid decisions though so we'll see :) Problem is they don't have anything we want other than Drummond and Caldwell Pope, make Gigi Datome.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Is it sad that part if me thinks Dumars is SO bad at his job, that Danny can coax him into a Rondo/Wallace for Drummond/CV/Stuckey deal?

Haha man the city of Detroit would riot.

would you want him?

In some ways yes. I want to win a championship and Rondo has won it before.

Unless the NBA has suddenly turned into protecting their assets as their #1 priority

Remember back in the days. Trades for key assets, high picks did happen for just a key rental vets (not even a big star). For example we gave up Joe Johnson for Rodney Rogers pretty much, so that we can try to go far.

It didn't workout but i can see why the trade was attempted.

Um, this is every GM's priority -- at least the ones that manage to keep their jobs.  Making deals to make deals gets GMs fired, particularly foolish deals

and how'd that deal work out for the C's?  pretty badly.  for that season, Rogers was a great pickup and Delk helped too but due to p----poor talent evaluations, we refused to give up the player who had nothing but athleticism (Brown) and gave away the kid that showed actual talent (JJ - who's still playing by the way).  We didn't bother to resign Rogers which led to the Vin Baker debacle.

most GMs have seemingly learned from this example and others like it.

Why aren't other teams lining up for him? Offering their star pg and/or other assets in return?

Det and Nyn don't have the assets or aren't willing to give up the goods to have danny listen also

Is it more about him coming back from injury that teams are hesistant to trade for him or something else

Its just strange/interesting imo

How do you know other teams haven't asked about Rondo?

Aside from that, think of the other players in the league who are in their 20s, have been to 3-4 all-star games and haven't made any noise about leaving their teams or requested a trade. How often do you hear those players come up in trade rumors? How strange/interesting do you find the lack of league-wide interest in those players?

Did KG make any noise in Minny? Did Ray Allen with the Sonics?

KG made plenty of noise in Minny, and they were both in their 30s. Try again. Players in their 20s that are regulars at the all-star game that aren't talking about leaving or requesting a trade. Do you frequently hear about trade rumors involving such players? If not, do you assume it's because other teams have no interest in them?

I'm sure a lot of teams have been asking about him. Us fans don't get the pleasure of hearing what's actually going on in the front office. :'(

i can't imagine rondo gets dealt unless its for a pretty huge return. we aren't getting that from the knicks, and the pistons don't seem willing to part with drummond, so that seems like a dead alley, too. all these rumors seem to be lazy sports journalists just pontificating

We aren't getting that from anyone at the moment, given his current level of play.
