http://www.nba.com/magic/around-association-pistons-celtics-talk-monroe-rondo-trade

Quote
Josh Cohen’s Analysis (Jan. 22, 2014): When the Pistons signed Josh Smith this past summer there were hints they weren’t finished shaking up the roster. And as one team scout noted during Summer League, if modifications were made, Greg Monroe would be at the center of it.

Not surprisingly with Detroit not playing up to expectations, Monroe’s name has been mentioned in the trade rumor circuit. And it is only fitting that Rajon Rondo – a player the Pistons have reportedly coveted over the past few months – may be available as well.

Would Detroit and Boston be willing to negotiate a potential deal around these two? That remains unclear and as one source recently described the Celtics’ latest position, “everything is open for discussion in Boston.”

Guys i can see this trade becoming a reality. If Danny can get Monroe and pry away a 1st or Caldwell-Pop, i think he will pull the trigger.

Monroe has not been offered an extention and rumors also say he would't sign an extension if offered.

Monroe has alot of talent. Only drawback is , he is not an above the rim guy. Still has a nice 7'4 wingspan to help him out in difficult situtions. Great rebounder and passer.

Monroe is also close with Jeff Green

I hope so.  Monroe isn't a guy who interests me very much.

Jeez, ya think?

Move along, people. [Maybe a thread title change? Calling this a "rumor" is beyond generous.]

you hardly see a nba website page post an idea.  Then it will become like hoopshype rumors section

Detroit everyone knows really wants him and do have the pieces to make a trade work.

I was really high on him coming out of the draft, and after his rookie year.  Unfortunately, he hasn't really developed at all since then, and he's allergic to defense.

He could definitely still be a helpful player for a team, but I don't think a Sully / Monroe front court would be all that impressive.

He is a good player but not a franchise calibre one. He might just need a scenery change to get his game going at another level

I would be okay with a Sully / Monroe front court, as I think it would only help progress our team; however, not at the expense of a Rondo-less back court.

I always thought the Monroe for Green and pick/filler made more sense. Trading for Rondo isn't going to fill their gaping hole at sf (I realize they are playing J. Smith at sf right now and he is a very good player, but he should be playing pf).

I'm in agreement here as he has pretty much leveled off.  I also think of him as more of a PF than C.

Agree.  My complaint with him is that I want at least one of my big men to be able to protect the basket.  Sully puts in the effort but is limited physically, while Monroe just doesn't seem to care about that end of the floor.  I don't think you could ever create an above average defense with those two guys as your anchors.

He's consistently played better as a C.

it's true.

The guy is also one heck of a rebounder. He already has a
15 and 17 game.

Rim protection is nice but its not eveything. Just ask Memphis and SA.  I rather have rebounding, especially grabbing most of the difficult defensive rebounds vs having shot blocking presence

Also if Rim protection is so important, Detroit wouldn't be where they are today with Drummond.

What?  Marc Gasol is historically a terrific rim protector, and Duncan and Splitter both play well around the basket too.

Protecting the paint isn't just about blocking shots.  Drummond might get his blocks, but he's a poor defender (Detroit is significantly better defensively with him off the court).  Much more about consistent positioning, timing and awareness than it is about the occasional ESPN highlight.

with the last sentences you just strengthened my point.
So not sure why people here are enormed by Drummond.  The flash is there, the nuts and bolts are not. Maybe it will come, but Drummond doesn't strike me as a guy with high IQ
